5k Run, Fuddruckers, Thirteen Pies, The Flash and Black Pepper Pizza (June 24, 2023)

Jason has a goal of running a half marathon in every Canadian province and territory (and possibly in every state as well some day).

He wanted to get Saskatchewan ticked off his list so planned on running 21k this morning.

Saskatoon has a park run along the river every Saturday morning at 9 - it was quite a ways down from where we were and it was 8:30 when we made it down for our run so I decided to just run from where I was.

I would have liked to do the Park Run but I would have had to run down there to make it in time which would have added a couple of km's to the 5k for the Park Run itself and I wasn't sure if I was up for that.

It was so beautiful out there this morning - the river was nice and calm.

I passed by where the Park Run was happening and I also saw another run going on that seemed to involve military folk.
A few guys in uniform were stationed here - doing what I'm not sure.

I ended up doing the 5k that I wanted.
I felt like I was going to be sick at the 4k mark but I just pushed past it and kept going.

My exercise details.

My average pace and splits.

A little on the slower side but I did it and that's what counts!
I was a hot, sweaty mess but I was so proud of myself.

I finished quite far away from where I started so I had a pretty good walk back but with this gorgeous scenery, who cares?
I knew Jason would be a bit anyway so I wasn't in any rush.

I went up and walked along the street at one point and it is beautiful up there too.

Trees line the street all the way down and there are street lights too - I bet it is nice here in the evening when the lights turn on.

I just love me a tree lined street.

Some birds out on the water.

The way the sun sparkles on it makes it 10x more beautiful in my opinion.

A duck family out for a swim.

I got back to where we get down onto the river walk and I figured Jason would be back soon so I just stood and waited for him and took in all the beauty.

Love the old brick building.

I stood and just watched the goings on for a bit thinking I would see Jason soon.

There are so many people out using this river walk - it was nice to see.
These guys carrying the canoes were doing some kind of run.
It looked super hard - I wonder what kind of a run it was?

I stayed there for quite some time actually but still no sign of Jason so I decided to head back to the apartment.
It had a key code on the apartment door and a key fob to get through the inner door once inside the building and I had both of those but when I got there, I realized I needed another code for the outside door and I didn't have it.
So I went to the little coffee shop downstairs and got myself an iced coffee and a water for Jason then headed back down to wait for him.

I called him to see how he was doing and he said he was nearly back.

There he is!
He said he took longer because he kind of dilly dallied along the way, stopped to stretch a few times and to take some pictures.

These are some of the things he saw along the way.

Not sure who this guy is?

He saw some cool flowers - like this one.

And this one.

Geese families.

One of the many bridges.

Another bridge - he crossed this one.

One of the many entrances down to the river walk.

A view of Saskatoon high rises.

Little dam/waterfall.
I saw this on my run too but I didn't stop to take a picture so I'm glad Jason did.

Another view of the Saskatoon skyline.

Another flower - this one is being enjoyed by several bees.

We walked back to the apartment and there was a Farmer's Market going on in the parking lot next door so we walked through.
All we bought was some cherries.

We stopped in the apartment to change out of our running clothes then we went to another Farmer's Market.

We actually came to this one last time we were here -we love a good farmer's market.

On the wall inside.

We were kind of disappointed - there wasn't much at the market at all - a lot of empty booths.

We were getting hungry by this point so we did a quick google search and found a Mexican restaurant with really good reviews and decided to check it out.

We followed the directions and it ended up taking us to this park then we had to park and walk the rest of the way.
We found the restaurant but it was like a take out kind of a place - there was seating but it just wasn't what we were expecting and they had burgers and fries and just a few Mexican options so we ultimately decided to go somewhere else.

It was a cute park though - there was this little train you could ride on.

There was also a beautiful splash park there - it was a beautiful day for it.

We had trouble finding a restaurant we wanted to go to - a lot of them only opened at 4 but we were hungry now.

We ended up deciding to go to Fuddruckers.

They had their own truck.

They had an outdoor seating area.

So of course that is where we opted to sit.

They had a creamsicle shake as a summer special so we got one to share.

I got the Hawaiin salad.
It had chicken, pineapple, mandarin, coconut along with the greens and a sweet dressing.
It was good - a bit on the sweet side and probably A LOT of points.
I broke off a few bites of the taco bowl because I love them - I could have eaten it all but I was trying to eat reasonably.

Jason had a salad too - his had cranberries and almonds and I was thinking about getting it myself but it had blue cheese on it - I'm not such a big blue cheese fan.

We also got a burger to share.

It looked good but it was on the dry side.

Afterwards I wanted an ice cream.
There is an ice cream place on the river walk that we saw last night and it had a line up the whole time so we figured it must be good and we headed there.

There was a line up there when we got there - that's a good sign isn't it?

So we got in the line up.

There were so many people out and about - this river walk area gets a lot of use.

It really is so pretty here.

I saw someone get a twist soft serve here yesterday but with red and white ice cream so that was what I wanted but apparently they change the flavors out weekly and yesterday was the last day for the strawberry so I ended up getting the chocolate twist.
it was good.

Nothing better than an ice cream on a hot summer day.

After ice cream, we rented a couple of scooters.

And just explored all around the water front here.

We found this awesome trail - It would be awesome to have bikes here.
I think we are going to come back and bring our bikes with us next time (once we get a new vehicle and a bike rack).

You could only go so far on the trail then the scooters stopped working - said we were out of the acceptable area.

We headed back and rode them a bit longer then we decided to go and get some supper.

This statue was right by our building (it's in the background there).

The statues from the other angle.

"Egg Money"

We settled on pizza for supper - Jason found a place called Thirteen Pies that had good reviews and it was close enough that we could walk so off we went.

Sights along the way.
Metal work wild cat.

Painted electrical box.

Building mural.
There were a lot of them downtown and they were really good.

Another painted electrical box.

A heart Jason noticed on the ground.
He is so much more observant than I am.

Love the clever sayings we see on sandwich boards.

Random Sculpture.

Random giant bust of Mohamet Ghandi.
Not sure of the significance - why they had it here, what he has to do with Saskatoon?

Found Thirteen Pies - It was kind of confusing because it says Royal Bank on the outside but it is actually the pizza place.

The front door.

Cool neon sign they had.

I'm guessing this is the door to the vault from the bank - it was in the men's washroom.
I like that they left it there and made it part of the decor.

The walls in there were covered in pizza themed comic strip wallpaper.
The ladies room was the same.

There were some interesting combinations on the menu.

Jason chose the Pies Have Eyes.

I went for the Killer Cheese - it was the leeks that got me and I do like honey on my pizza.

Both pizzas were fantastic - I could only eat a slice and a half but I wished I could have eaten more.
It was our favorite place we ate at this trip and if we are ever back in Saskatoon we will absolutely be back for more pizza.

We had passed a movie theatre on our way to supper so we decided to go there and see a movie.

The Flash just came out and it isn't getting the best reviews but we still wanted to see it anyway.
When we went to pay - it was quite expensive.
It's been a long time since we've been to a movie in a theater so we thought the prices had just jumped but turns out we accidentally bought ticket so the VIP theater.
I think there was just us in that theater and one other group of three guys.

We thought the movie was good - Ezra Miller was a little annoying in parts but overall we enjoyed it.

Walking back to our apartment after the movie we stumbled upon this really neat dandelion statue.

Jason had seen another pizza place on google that had really good reviews and it was within walking distance so we figured we might as well give it a try too.
It was called Black Pepper Pizza and we just got the pepperoni.
It was just a take out spot so we carried it back to the apartment.
WE didn't care for the pepperoni on it - but we just picked that off.
The pizza was just ok.

On they walk back we happened upon this street that had these little lights running all the way down both sides of the street.

So nice.

Another cool building mural.

ONce we got back to the apartment we just watched some tv and called it a night.

Sounds like my kind of party.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
