Spring Has Sprung and it's a Beautiful Thing (May 13, 2023)

Jason headed out for a run this morning while Freya and I had a bit of a sleep in.

He ran down in the river valley and sent me this picture of how pretty it looked out there.

When Freya woke up, she went to the window looking for Jason - I let him know so when he got back to the hotel he could look for her.

He zoomed in and he could see us - we were up on the 9th floor so this is pretty neat.

If you can't tell - she's giving he the finger here - it's a little joke between them.
Think we need to get her out of it.

When he got back to the room we packed up and headed out.
We took our luggage tothe car then decided to go for breakfast to a little place around the corner from the hotel.
Lock Stock Coffee.

They had some sweets so we shared a few of those.
This was a malva pudding cake with some apricot jam on top.
Basically a really moist muffin - it was good.

The had an apple butter ginger scone and as a huge scone fan I had to have one.
I've had it before and it did not disappoint.
Loved it - a bit undercooked I think but I actually like that.

Jason had the bagel and lox breakfast sandwich.
It was underwhelming.
It had pickled onions on it which overpowered everything else - the star of the show should be the cream cheese and lox but it was not.
I wouldn't have it again.

I had the breakfast sandwich - just bacon, egg and arugula.
It was ok - nothing spectacular about it.

Freya just wanted a side of bacon, they brought her a little dish full of bacon all cut up in little bite size pieces and she loved it - ate every last little piece and I think would have even licked the bowl if she could have.
Big bacon fan just like her Grandma.

Breakfast selfied with my little girlie.
She's wearing the other pantsuit that came in the pack of two we got her yesterday.
She just loves them.

She took my picture.

Pretended to take one of Papa.

Then did take one of him for real.

After breakfast we decided to go for a walk and ended up by the Legislature building.
The grounds are just beautiful.

The blossoms were all out on the trees so we had to check them out.
It smelled wonderful.

Papa and his best girl.
She loves it when he gives her a kiss then she wipes it off.
They she gets him to do it again and promises she won't wipe it off but then she does and she could do it over and over and play that game all day.

The trees with the pink blossoms are my favorite.

Of course we had to make sillly faces.

She got Papa to help her pick a few flowers.

These are for you Grandma.

We walked around the grounds.

Freya and Jason ran around.

She sure has a lot of energy.

I'm glad Jason could keep up with her.

They had these four mirrors up on these posts that all slanted down an looked towards the center of where they were placed.
I wasn't really sure what it was but Jason said it was a periscope.
There are tunnels underneath and this reflects down into the tunnel so you can see the outdoors when you are down there.

The tunnels were open so we went down in them and checked them out.

The light you can see there is where the periscope is reflecting down into the tunnel.

It was really nice and clean and cool down in the tunnels.
They go all over the grounds and I never even knew they existed - kind of cool.

We left there and found a Starbucks - Freya was thirsty and I was in the mood for a cold brew.
We got her a chocolate milk and she drank it lickety split then asked for another.

We got her one and then she was kind of fooling around and went to 'pretend' to pour it on herself but the lid wasn't on correctly and it did in fact pour all over her.
She was just covered and she was so upset.

We had to take her back to the vehicle and change her - she wanted to put her other pantsuit back on but I'd put it in with our dirty clothes so she ended up wearing the other outfit we'd gotten her yesterday, a little skirt and top.

We left there and had to make a couple stops then we went to the Italian Market.
We picked up some sliced meat and buns for a picnic then Freya noticed there was a park across the street and wanted to go play there.

Jason pushing all the kids on the merry go round thing.

Love how Freya is just chilling - not a care in the world.
We played there for a bit - there was a bit of a splash park there and Freya went over by it but didn't actually go in it.

She worked off some of her energy anyway then we made a stop at the Habitat for Humanity Restore.
I was still looking for wood for signs and didn't really find much but I did get a can of matte paint to use to make chalk paint.
It's kind of a beige color but it will work.

Jason suggested we go for pho before we hit the road for home - it's been awhile and it sounded good so that's where we went.

Of course I had to have the green onion cakes with the fish sauce - so delish.

Moi.

Jason enjoying his pho and Freya watching some YouTube.

She's very intent!

We ordered her some vermicelli noodles but she said she wanted the noodles with the 'sauce' (she was referring to the broth) so I gave her some of mine and she was happy with that.

She had a bit of a YouTube break then wanted more 'sauce' so we gave her some of Jason's - he'd loaded his up with chilis in oil like he always does but that didn't phase her one bit - she drank it down like nothing.
She sure has a higher tolerance for heat than I do.

We made another stop after that at Winners to get a gift for a birthday party she is going to tomorrow - Dakota's.
She wanted to get him a little outfit that he could marry her in and picked out a white dress for herself to wear.
I told her she was too young to get married and she responded
"I'm not getting married yet Grandma, I'm only getting married to Dakota when I'm 5".
Ha ha.

She picked out a toy she wanted as well and I made her chose between the toy and the dress.
She chose the toy so I guess the wedding can wait.

We stopped at Walmart too - Freya was done out by then and having a nap so Jason stayed in the car with her while I went in to pick up the things I needed.
I'm having everyone over for supper tomorrow for Mother's Day so I picked up food for that then I also wanted fruits and veggies for the week.

The produce department had a poor selection so we stopped in Westlock at the grocery store there to get a few more things.

It was 10 pm by the time we made it back to town.
Kody and Haylee are both working in the morning so we just kept Freya over night again with us.

Kody just found out this last week that the company he works for, Northwell Hauling, is closing it's doors pretty much immediately.
He's been busy though helping them move equipment that an auction company bought and doing a few last jobs that they were committed to.

My brother said he could come back and work for him if needed and Haylee's uncle Luke also said he'd hire him as well so he isn't concerned about a job.
He'd prefer to stay driving and you never know, someone else might buy the spot - they still need picker drivers around here so I guess we'll see what happens.

After we got all the groceries put away, we watched a little tv then it was off the bed.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
