Barney's Adventure Park & Last Chance Saloon (July 2, 2022)

Crystal found out about a new theme park in Drumhellar so we decided to take all the kids there today to check it out.

Barney's Adventure Park.
It was kind of grey and overcast out there today but it was still warm so a perfect day really to spend outdoors at a park like this.

They had some really cute signage.

The views around the park.
The topography around here is very unique.

They had these characters all along on the way in - cute photo ops.

We stopped and took pictures with a couple of them.

The walkway from the parking lot over to the park.

The crew coming behind me.

There they all are.
Freya loves being up on Kody's shoulders.

You could rent these collapsible wagons so I got one of those and I also bought some bug spray because the mosquitos were crazy.
I sprayed everyone down really good and they didn't really bother us for the rest of the day which was nice.

The kids headed straight to the giant bouncy pillows.

These are always a hit with the kids.

Zepplyn got some pretty good air there!

Hunter got some pretty good air too but I only caught this picture of him on the way back down.

It was a nice big area with lots of stuff to explore.

Not a lot of people around either which was kind of nice.
No lines to wait in for stuff for the most part.

I like the old farm windmill.

There was some pig racing going on so we made sure to make it over there to watch.

The announcer introducing us to all of the pigs.

Pig races at Barney's Adventure Park, Pinky was my pick (he lost).

Freya had a pretty good view of the pig races.

After the races, we hit up the giant slide.

Hunter and Zepplyn racing down.

Freya like hanging from the pole.
She did go down several times.

Slide Race
I even went down it myself - it was kind of bumpy but fun.

There was a play park area with a ball pit you could slide into from these mini slides.
Freya really like that.

There were a few of these digger things in the sand.
They are kind of hard to operate but Hunter was getting it figured out.

There was a giant tire 'castle' you could climb.

Alivia and Freya made it to the top.

Alivia helping Freya back down.

Next up was the giant tire swing.

Crystal gave them a push.

Giant tire swing.
It was cool that they could all fit on there at the same time, we probably could have even added another kid or two.

Giant chess game.

Would have been fun to play but I don't know how to play chess.

The had old fashioned water pumps.

Freya was trying to get it going.

Alivia gave it a try too.

Of course everyone else had to give it a try then as well.

There was a cool tire swing and the tires were made into tractors.
So neat.

Everyone had to try those out too.
Hunter.

Freya.

Alivia.

Haylee.

They had barrel horses that were kind of neat - nobody tried those out though.

Next up was time to visit the animals.

Everyone loooves baby goats.
I mean, how could you not?

Look at the blue eyes on this one.

Zepplyn holding a baby goat.

Freya was checking the goat out first.

She needed a little assistance.

Suddenly she's a pro baby goat holder.
Look how happy she is.

Haylee had a turn.

So did Hunter.
Nothing puts a smile on a face like holding a baby goat does.

There were lots of them and they had this old truck converted into a play place for them.

Couldn't get this guy to turn around but loved the hair cut!

There was a friendly little calf who just wanted to play.

I was trying to get a good picture of him but he wouldn't stay still.
Did catch this one of him with his tongue out.

Got a good close up too.

Playful calf.

More of the calf.

A few of our group went over to visit Scout the donkey.

Saying Hi to Scout.

I didn't actually go over there but Crystal got this great shot of him.
Scout the donkey.

There was a go kart area so that is where we headed next.

Hunter picked his out.

Randie and Zepplyn having a race.

Zepplyn took the lead.

Kody and Freya took one out on a test run.

Haylee tried out the giant tricycle.

There was lots to chose from.
I gave one a test ride too, they are hard to ride but run.

Haylee ended up having a race on foot with the kids on the track and she won.

One of the main attractions of the park was this Live Dinosaur Experience and that is where we headed next.

It goes into the woods and it starts out with a little video that you watch that kind of sets the stage.

The video.
Live dinosaur experience.

Right away we came across some tracks on the ground.

Hmmm, wonder what kind of dinosaur left that foot print.

Off down the path to explore.

There was an old wrecked car.

An abandoned camp.

Then a dinosaur.

It moved and made noises.

Another dinosaur.

They really made it look like an expedition gone wrong.

Another dinosaur in amongst the trees.

A plane wreck.

More dinosaurs in the trees.
I think these are raptors.

Brontosaurus - my favorite.

Not sure what kind of dinosaur this little guy was.

 A t-rex and another guy.

Look at the mouth on this one.
A Tetradactyl maybe?

We have brave kiddos - they weren't scared at all!

They were braver than me!

Not all of the dinosaurs moved and made noises but a few of them did.

Crystal and Haylee

Kody and Randie.

There was a dinosaur there that you could climb up into the mouth of so the kids all wanted to give that a try.
Hunter.

Zepplyn.

Freya.

Alivia.

Such little arms.
Apparently there is a theory now that these weren't actually arms but wings.
Hmmm?

It was a neat experience to walk through the woods and check it all out.

Then we had more stuff to check out in the park, like the giant hamster wheel (at least that's what I call it).

Freya trying her hardest to get it to go.

Freya mastered the giant hamster wheel.

Giant hamster wheel.

There were three ziplines on the hill and that's where the kids wanted to go next.

Hunter was the first one to give it a go.
He needed a little help getting up on it, it was kind of high.

Off he goes.

Freya was up next.

I was worried she might fall off but she was like a pro right from the get go.

Freya on the zipline.

Haylee gave it a go.

Hunter tried it a few times.

Freya did it the most though.

She did it over and over.

Good thing there were two others because she kind of commandeered this one.

She just loved it.

Alivia on the zipline.

Hunter gave up on the zipline and gave the hamster wheel a go.
It was tough to get it going but he did it.

Meanwhile Randie tried out the zipline.

Kody gave it a go to - Freya was helping him - so cute.

Off he goes.

It swings you up at the end there and that was the part I was afraid Freya might fall off at but she handled it like a champ.

I had a turn on the zipline myself - I felt really low to the ground.
Once was enough for me.

The map of the park.
Probably would have been better to check this out at the beginning of the day, ha ha.

Heading to pan for gold next.

They had it set up that you could do panning and you could either pick bags of sand with fossils in them or gems.

So the kids each got a bag and gave it a go.

Freya lost interest pretty quickly so Kody finished getting her fossils for her.

One last stop to check out a few vehicles they had there on display.

It was open so the kids could go in and play inside.

Alivia doesn't look all that distressed about being behind bars.

We had a good time there - checked out everything and we were all getting hungry by this point so we decided to go for supper.

The kids had been playing musical cars all weekend and I ended up with Hunter and Zepplyn in the car with me for this trip.

We decided to go to a restaurant called Last Chance Saloon and in order to get there you had to cross 11 bridges, the 11 bridges of Wayne.
The kids had fun counting them.

We were the first ones from our group to arrive so they seated us at a table outside.

There was live entertainment and it was really loud so I asked if we could move to another table a little further away in this outdoor section.

We were waiting and waiting and wondering what the heck was taking so long for everyone else to get there when Kody came out looking for us.

Turns out there were all seated inside and waiting for us.

It took FOREVER for a waitress to come and take our food order.
They were super busy but they also seemed like they weren't very organized.

Still waiting on our food.

Hunter ordered the kids mac & cheese and when it came out, it was kind of a fancy version with white cheese - he's fussy so there was no way he was going to eat that.
I ended up ordering him a hot dog.

The food was ok
We stopped for ice cream on the way back to the house and that was yummy.

Back at the house, Alivia sorted through all of her gems.

She got quite a few in her bag of sand at the park today.

After supper, everyone decided to go to the movie.
The new Minion movie was playing in town.
I still had to get my run in so I sent Hunter and Alivia with them and I headed out for my run.

I have a 27k run tomorrow on the training schedule and my plan all along was to run that today since we'll be on the road travelling tomorrow but I knew it would take me at least 4 hours and by the time I headed out for my run it was just too late for that.

The scenery here is definitely different and interesting.

This is just up the road from where we were staying.

Sweaty selfie - run is done!

I ended up doing the 13k that was on the schedule for today.
I ran around the residential area we were staying in again, just went a bit further today.

My exercise details and average heart rate.

My average pace and splits.

My video check in for today.

When I got home from my run, I had time to have a shower before everyone else got back from the movie.
They all enjoyed it.

We spent the rest of the evening just hanging out.

Then I had both Hunter and Freya sleep with me when we went to bed.
I didn't mind though.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
