This is the hotel we stayed in, it was in a really great location, right down town.
Looks like they have a Stay Pineapple coming to NYC.
I'd stay in it.
This little guy was there every morning to greet us.
Really every time we were in and out of the hotel as he never moved. 😊
We were up and out early again this morning.
There is only a 1 hour time difference between here and home but it sure helps with getting an early start every day.
My Honey looked up this place and it had good reviews so we went with it.
It had a seating area outdoors but we decided to eat inside.
Egg shaped menu - neat idea!
They had some cool seasonal options.
I ended up going with the Stuffed French Toast.
The creamy mascarpone cheese pushed it over the edge for me!
Doesn't that look divine?
Full of cheesy mascarpone and bananas.
It was delicious!
My Honey had the Mexican breakfast - he liked it.
We were supposed to go back to see the Doctor this afternoon to get our results of our testsbut we decided instead to go on a food tour.
We didn't want to waste 3 - 4 hours going over there when we can just get them to send us the results.
Instead My Honey booked us on a food tour for later this afternoon and we decided to just walk around and do some exploring this morning.
The trolley tour bus driver said yesterday that the convention center looks like a giant hamster cage with all the little plastic tubes and he was right, it kind of does.
It was meant to look like sails and to have a nautical feel and it does.
It is a cool looking building.
It's huge!
Selfie!
We walked up the steps of the convention center and looked inside.
It's hard to see but looks like they are setting up for something big in there.
When we got to the top, we were treated to this view on the other side.
So beautiful!
This is the backside of the convention center.
That would be nice to hang out on for a day or two (or seven)!
Just hanging out in San Diego!
What a beautiful spot!
Of course we had to walk down a million stairs on the other side as well, this is the back side of the convention center.
It is gigantic.
There were lots of nice plants in pots all around.
I really like the shape of that black building - so smooth and sleek.
My Honey had bought us tickets for a food tour over on Coronado this afternoon but until then we really had no agenda so we just started walking.
We walked right into a run of some sort that was going on.
It is so nice along the waterfront.
We ended up walking into Seaport Village.
We came across a cupcake place so we checked it out.
I loved how they had all these platters on display - they were most likely just storing them there but I thought it looked good.
They had all kinds of goodies to choose from so we chose a cupcake to share.
When we went out the back door, we saw this sign.
Champion cupcake right there!
There was a darling little courtyard with tables there.
I love everything about this door.
The little windows, the aged look, the handle and the color, especially the color!
Came across this cute pup.
He was taking himself for a walk, ha ha.
He is actually holding his own leash in his mouth.
We just wandered along the seaside walkway.
Saw some funky art pieces like this.
Lots of other people out strolling too and enjoying the day.
There was a dock that jutted out and there were fish mongers all along it.
This one had giant sea urchins.
We tried them once, not sure if they are for me.
House on stilts.
I think it may have been a restaurant.
My Honey got some words of wisdom from Zoltar.
We saw a bunch of food tents off in the distance so we wandered over to see what was going on.
Turns out there was a Wine and Food Festival going on.
As we were walking by, this couple called us over and asked if we had tickets to go.
We did not of course and they gave us two tickets for free.
Someone had given them four tickets and they could only use two of them so they were passing them on so someone else could enjoy it too.
That was so kind of them.
Of course we jumped at the chance to check it out.
As you entered, they gave everyone this fancy plastic plate and wine glass.
There was quite the line up but we didn't mind.
We had a pretty good view while we were waiting.
We also had food.
This company had artisan breads and they were giving loaves of it to everyone standing in line.
We waited for about a half hour then they opened the gates and let everyone in.
There were so many tents it was hard to decide which way to go first.
We just picked a tent and got started.
There were breads to try.
Lots of good food - not sure what it even was but it was yummy.
Chicken wings.
The people manning the booths were just flat out.
Ceviche!
They had a VIP tent.
Then a ton more tents.
These guys had practically a whole meal on a plate.
There were desserts.
My Honey loves squid ink pasta so we were excited to try this.
So many treats to try.
The presentations were lovely.
OOOOh, more desserts.
More chicken wings.
Yummy - salmon!
We probably would have stayed longer but we had the food tour to get to so we kind of hurried through.
We found the ferry to Coronado Island.
We love being out on the water so a ferry ride was perfect.
It was a quick ferry ride.
Then we were there!
When we got off the ferry, there were some shops, restaurants and a nice beach area.
We were a bit early for the tour so we wandered around.
We got us some shaved ice.
I had passionfruit and My Honey had some concoction of theirs that was spicy.
It seemed to be really popular, we saw lots of people getting it.
My Honey said it wasn't great but it wasn't awful either.
Just a strange combo to get used to.
I tried it too and it was interesting but I preferred mine for sure.
Mine was delicious.
There were giving away lots of stuff at the Wine & Food Festival too, like sunglasses and this sweet hat.
We had to go back down to the ferry landing to meet up with the group for the food tour.
It was a larger group, I think about 12 of us.
It was a walking tour so as soon as everyone was there, we headed to our first stop.
I still can't get over the greenness of the grass.
Sure wish it looked like this at home right now.
These condos were right on the water front - what a great spot!
At first I thought it was a wedding but then I started seeing all kinds of kids all dressed up so it must have been prom or something.
Quite the dress.
Tartine,
Our first stop on the food tour.
It was a more casual place - our tour guide was good friends with the chef and he came out to chat with us a bit.
Very friendly!
They had a display full of all kinds of delicious looking things.
We didn't have any of those though, we had a bowl of lentils.
However, they just happened to be the most delicious lentils I have ever had.
I'd go back to have them again and that's saying a lot for a lentil dish!
It was quite a jaunt to get to our next stop.
We walked all the way up Orange St but it was a really nice walk.
Wow - beautiful roses.
Our next stop was an oil & vinegar place.
They gave us samples of vanilla ice cream with balsamic vinegar drizzled on top and it was super good.
We sampled the oils & vinegars.
We ended up getting a bottle of grapefruit balsamic vinegar to take home with us.
I'm definitely going to try it on some ice cream!
Next stop was a pizza place.
They had their own funky pops that we had to pour ourselves from a pop machine.
We each got a slice of pizza to try.
We sat at tables outside to eat - this was about half of the group.
I have a knack at catching people with the strangest looks when they are eating.
The pizza was not too bad.
Next we headed to this place with the castle looking place in the background.
Oh yeah!!!
Apparently they have the best lobster rolls around.
We each got a half of a lobster roll and it was dang good!
I'd go back in a heartbeat for another.
This was our tour guide.
She is actually from Europe but met a man, married him and left her home for him.
They lived in Montreal for a few years before moving to San Diego.
She was a good tour guide, knowledgeable and interesting.
Our final stop!
A Gelato Place
She brought out samples for us and after we ate, we parted ways.
Since we were there, My Honey wanted to go over and check out Hotel Del Coronado.
The place was like a fancy resort - I'd love to go back and spend a night there maybe.
They had this cool tv in the hotel gift shop.
It had a giant room, maybe a ballroom or something lined with these regal looking light fixtures.
They looked like crowns - I've never seen anything like them before, so cool.
We walked around Coronado a bit and did some browsing in some of the shops.
I picked up a little dress for Baby F.
Then we hopped on the ferry and headed back over to San Diego.
Had to go back over the stairs again which I was dreading but we made it.
We were feeling a little hungry because we'd been having little samples all day but no meals really.
We knew Hodad's was in San Diego somewhere, we'd seen it on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives and we wanted to go there before we left so now was a good a time as any.
We got the little hotel shuttle golf cart to drop us off there.
It was quite the place.
It was just covered in stickers.
My Honey.
The menu was pretty basic.
Our waiter was really fun.
He asked if I wanted to go behind the counter and get my picture taken with Guy's picture and I said yes as long as he joined me.
Striking a pose.
When he brought out our food, he brought a bunch of stickers for us too.
My Honey had the Blue Jay burger.
He loves blue cheese and has it every chance he gets.
I had the guido burger.
We also got a shake to share.
The food was outrageously good.
I understand what the hype is all about.
The vibe in the place is great too.
I had to try a Root Beer too - been craving one ever since our root beer floats the other day.
When he found out we were from Canada, the waiter brought us a bunch more stickers to put up when we get home!
We walked back to the hotel after that.
It was a great day but I was ready to relax.
Saw this on Facebook and it made me giggle.
I actually really like Edmonton but this appealed to my warped sense of humor.
Love seeing all that green!
That is all for today, until next time, be happy.
