Las Vegas Day 5 - Long Run, Ameribrunch, Zac Bagan's Haunted Museum and Hard Hat Lounge (Mar.17, 2024)

It's long run day and luckily, we woke up to no rain and way less clouds.
Not super sunny or hot though so perfect for running.
I had ro run 9 miles (14.4k) and Jason said it was about 7 - 8 to run down the strip to the Las Vegas sign just after Mandalay Bay so I decided to run there and back.

I knew there would be lots of stairs at the overpasses and then lots of people too but I figured I'd just take my time, not worry if I had to stop and walk here and there, I'd just focus on enjoying it and I did.

Jason was doing a 30k run today, he was also heading toward the sign but then he'd be continuing on and doing a big loop around the airport, down to Fremont then back to the Strat while I was just doing an out and back to the sign.

I kept up with for a bit at first because we kept hitting so many lights but eventually we broke off and he got way ahead of me which is the norm.

Then just as I was getting to the sign, he popped up behind me.
He'd stopped in at Tropicana to use the washroom so I made him come over and take a picture in front of the sign with me.

There was a big line up to get right up with the sign so we just took one with it off in the distance which was fine.

Then we split up, Jason kept going his way and I headed back towards the Strat.
I ended up stopping at the Tropicana as well to use the washroom.
It's an old casino (but a nice one) and it's going to be closing right away here - kind of sad.

It was quite a bit busier on the run back so there were a lot of sections where I got held up by the crowd but it was fine - I think those little rests actually helped because when I made it to the 14.4k mark, I felt great so I just kept running.

I ended up running 16k overall and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The exercise details.

My average pace and splits.

I had time to get a cold brew and take a shower before Jason made it back from his run.

Then once he showered up, we went for some breakfast.

We went to a spot down by Fremont St called Ameribrunch.
It said it was going to be a 30 minute wait but it was only about 5.

Jason.

A neighboring table got this matcha latte and it looked so good that I got one as well.

Jason treated himself to a cappuccino.

Then I had the chicken fried steak.

Jason had an egg sandwich.

I ordered a fruit bowl - it wasn't very impressive.
I ate it all though.

We shared some berry french toast.
Overall it was good - much better than yesterday's breakfast.

We walked around a little then decided to check out Zac Bagan's Museum today.
It's more up Jason's alley but he does lots of things with me that aren't necessarily what he's into so I was happy to do it with him.

He went online and booked some tickets for 4 pm then we headed over there.

We thought if we booked for 4 we'd just go in at 4 but no, we got in a line and kind of waited in this outdoor area where they had videos playing from the show.

Then we got moved to another area where we waited again.
I think it was around 5 - 5:30 before we even got in the place to start our tour.

Finally we are heading in.

It's 'haunted'.

This was just in the lobby area - there was kind of some cool stuff there.

Some creepy figurines.

Old advertising.

Just weird and wacky stuff.

We had a tour guide take us through and in each room she would go over stuff about that room with us then we'd watch a little video of Zac Bagan's himself explaining stuff.
There was a doll room, a library type room with a bunch of items that supposedly had belong to Al Capone.
That room had a bunch of diorama's on the shelves which I really liked.

They had a van set up just the Dr. Kovorkian's van had supposedly been set up for assisted suicides.
There was a room with a bunch of items that supposedly belonged to serial killers like Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy and some others.
I didn't care for that room to be perfectly honest.

There was a room with a possessed doll and you were supposed to say hi to her when you entered and bye to her when you left and you were supposed to not make eye contact with her or she would curse you and cause all kinds of crazy things to happen to you.

There were these two young girls on the tour with their dad in our group and they wouldn't even glance at the doll - they were super scared (the seemed to be very sweet girls).

I don't really believe in ghosts or that kind of thing but I'm not going to lie - I said hi to the doll when I went in and bye to her when I left just in case!

The whole time we were on the tour I was feeling majorly gassy and my stomach was in serious pain, just bloated and hurting.
I needed to pass gas but couldn't in such a small place with all these people around so I was seriously in agony.
I kept hoping for it to be over room after room, but it just kept going and going.
Finally I thought we were making it near the end when our tour guide says she'll be taking us through the next 3 rooms then we'll go with another guide who will do the last few rooms with us and I knew I wasn't going to make it.

So I told Jason I needed to leave but he should stay and finish up the tour.
So he did and another guide showed me the way to the exit.
I just sat in the car and waited for him - I was so relieved to be able to get out there and just sit.

The place looks pretty cool at night.

Overall we were there for over 4 hours so pretty good value for your money but we had no idea it was going to take that long and it pretty much ate up the rest of our day.

I was kind craving a burger and I wanted to go to Ole Red - Blake Shelton's restaurant that just opened on the strip - to try one of their burgers but when we'd passed by it earlier today it was lined up out the door, so Jason found a spot a bit nearer for us to try.

It was called The Hard Hat Lounge.
It was kind of deceiving - from the parking lot it looked like a seedy bar that we shouldn't step into but we went in anyway and it wasn't like that at all.
It was a nice spot with a good vibe - good music playing but not too loud - a chill crowd.

There was a little kitchen and they had a simple menu - burgers and tator tots basically.

So that's what we had - we each had a burger and then we shared some tator tots.
They were smashed burgers and they were simple but really good.

After we ate, we drove back and parked at the Strat then walked over to the McDonald's nearby to get McFlurries.
We did that last night too and I ended up buying a homeless guy outside and ice cream and then tonight I just ended up giving a homeless guy there all the change that I had and he was so grateful.

We were both pretty tuckered out after our long runs today so we just headed back to the room and called it a night.

We even skipped our nightly gambling routine.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
