Bru Burger, Fort Girardeau, Victoria's Ice Cream - Tennessee Trip Day 9 (May 27, 2024)

Jason wanted to get another 21k run in, this time in Indiana so after coffee he headed out.

He sent me this - he saw a sign for an antiques show going on here this weekend.
I'd love to go but I know that I'd want to buy things and since I have no room to take them home with me there's no sense torturing myself.

I got ready and headed out for a walk/run myself but I didn't get very far when I got a text from Jason saying that he just wasn't feeling the 21k today so could I come get him

So I went back and got the car and drove and picked him up.

After we checked out, we walked along the waterfront thinking we'd rent a couple bikes and go for a bike ride.
We just could not get it to work for us - we tried several times but to no avail so we ditched that idea and went for a walk instead.

We ended up in an upper scale neighborhood and there were some really gorgeous homes.

I love these banners - the stars and stripes is a much nicer flag than the maple leaf for decor.

Still a proud Canadian though even if I prefer the US flag.

Some of the homes were just humongous.

I just love these - first time I saw them was in New Orleans.

More gorgeous hydrangeas - they just look so pretty when they are in bloom.

I like the different colors on this one.

I love these areas that have all the mature trees - just adds to the charm so much.

Like just look at these homes.

The ivy growing on the brick is so beautiful too.

I liked that there were all different styles of homes and they weren't just cookie cutter versions of one another.

I like the color on this house.

Pretty church.

I love a front porch.

That wicker furniture looks so inviting.
Would be a great spot to sit and have a coffee.

What a nice color for a house.

The architectural elements on the windows and the roof are very nice too.

Love me a pretty tree and this one fits the bill.

Look at all those corbells.

This property looked like it had two houses that shared a courtyard or garden area.

These places looked so nice too - I'd love to be able to peek inside.

This blue house with all the blue hydrangeas in the yard was gorgeous and it's so big, looks like a mansion.

This was the side, it had a garden in the back that looked so welcoming.

I tried to zoom in a bit, look at those swinging chairs.

This is an old fashioned theater that was in the area.

This one wasn't as big as some of them but check out all those windows.

Those pillars always make a house look so grand.

There was just so many homes that were so pretty.

A nice big porch and a balcony.

Flag flying proudly.

We really enjoyed our walk around town.

When we were done, we found a spot to get something to eat before we hit the road for our next destination.

We decided on Bru Burgers which is in an old grey hound bus station and they had a little nod to that with this sign.

They had a huge outdoor seating area which is of course where we chose to sit.

Jason.

Moi - I choose to sit right in the direct sunlight.

Jason loves blue cheese so whenever he sees it in something on a menu, he gets it.

So he got the gorgonberry pecan salad.

I'm a horseradish fan so that burger stood out to me and that's what I ordered.

It tasted as good as it looks.

Then he got the Stilton Bleu Cheese burger which had fried onions, spinach pear-bacon jam and truffle aioli and the chili cheese fries.

The food was all fantastic.

We walked back to the hotel/casino to get the car and passed another really cool looking building along the way.

Before we left town, we went looking for the Roseanne house and we found it.

Just for comparison, this is the shot of the house from the show.

And then this was the Talk of the Town or Lobo Lounge as it was know on the Roseanne show

And this is a shot of it from the Roseanne show.

There was a Marshalls in town so we hit that up.
I've been stopping at all the Marshalls that I see hunting for a new purse.
I want a particular style and so far I haven't had any luck

There did happen to be a Crumb cookies right next to Marshalls though so we got a flight of cookies for the road.
They were all delicious.

The next spot we decided to go to was Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
We had to drive through Illinois to get there so that makes 5 states we've been in on this trip so far.

We found our hotel room when we got there - there wasn't really anything around it so we hopped in the car and went looking for the 'downtown' area.

It took us a minute but we found it.
There was this mural wall called the Missouri Wall of Fame.

Jason filmed the whole thing and made a TikTok

All famous people from Missouri.

A few names I recognize like Betty Grable, Jean Harlow, Redd Foxx and Vincent Price

We parked and took a walk through the town.

Another old brick building - you know I have an affinity for them.

This looked like maybe a government or civic building, not too sure.
All the lights leading up to it looked very nice.

I like these old town clocks.

Everything was pretty much closed.

I like the cobblestone looking street.

It was a pretty street with some nice buildings - I wish some of them had been open so we could go in and check them out.

We did end up finding an ice cream spot on the street that was open - Yee Haw!

It was called Victoria's.

I liked the decor.
There were two young girls working in there (university students) and they were sweet & very friendly.

We picked a couple flavors to try that looked interesting to me.
Coconut Almond Paradise

Lemon Cheesecake Bar

Lemon Poppy Seed

The first two flavors were the ones that I tried.

Then Jason tried the lemon poppy seed.

After I ordered mine and ate it, I went back to take picture of the flavors and noticed this flavor that was unlike anything I'd ever seen before so I had to try it.

I had it in a cup instead of a cone.
It was one of the best tasting ice creams I've ever had, I'm so glad I tried it.

It even came with a little piece of waffle cone.

Ok I know, it's just a tree, but it's such a pretty tree so I had to grab a picture.

We did walk around some more after ice cream.
It was so quiet.

We were hungry but there wasn't really anywhere open to eat.

We passed by this store that looked like it was filled with things that I would love.

The sign was funky.

There were potted plants all around the entrance.

I'm surprised it was all just out there and nobody was taking it.
Impressive.

I was peeking in the window trying to see what they had.
I liked these wooden balls, I wonder if I could make them?

Just look at all the good stuff in there!

It was like a ghost town - so quiet.

We looked for a restaurant and there was one inside of a local casino that was open so off we went.

Selfie with My Honey.

This was some artwork on the brick inside the casino.

We found the restaurant.
Red Star Grill.

The food was just so so but it did the trick.
We did a little gambling while we were there too but neither of us had any luck.

After we each lost as much as we were willing to, we went back to our room and called it a night.

Little Miss Eden just turned 7 months old.

That little tongue sticking out is darling.

Aww - she is such a sweetie.

How has 7 months gone by already?

Eden and Mom

Eden and Mom again.

She loves her Dada.

Everything goes in the mouth.

Mama's little girlie.

When she smiles her whole face lights up and I love it.

The whole fam jam.

I love Eden's big smile and Freya's funny face.

It was so nice to see pictures of the girls.
We are enjoying our vacation so much and we don't want it to end but on the other hand we are really missing the girls and can't wait to get back home to see them.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
