Fort Edmonton Park (July 24, 2021)

We slept in a bit later than we wanted this morning but our tickets for Fort Edmonton weren't for until noon so we didn't feel too rushed.

We got ready first thing and headed out for a run.

We walked to a residential area close to our hotel and did our run there.
My plan was to do 5k but I got a little turned around and had to do some back tracking so I ended up getting in a bit more (which was perfectly fine with me).

My exercise details.

My splits.
I could see Jason was waiting for me so I tried to push myself at the end a bit.

We picked up coffee's for everyone and dropped it off to them.
Zepplyn was ready to go in her Lady Bug costume.

Freya's is on the mend but her mouth is still bothering her.
She was chillaxing with a bubba.

Looks like LadyBug wants a piggy back ride.

She got a little one then we headed to our room to get ready to go.

We headed over to the park for noon.
I've never been here before so I was looking forward to checking it out.

Waiting to head into the park.

There was an old train right near the park entrance that took you to the back of the park so we hopped on.
There was standing room only but that was fine.

Zepp was getting lots of comments on her costume.
She did look pretty cute!

Jason and I enjoying the train ride.

It was only a short ride, about 9 minutes, but we got to see glimpses of the park on the way.
Freya was pretty excited to see these horsies.

Better view from up there on Daddy's shoulders.

There were some teepees set up so we popped in one to have a look.

I wanted to get a picture of everyone.

Freya was kind of in a world of her own though.

There were a bunch of these animal statures scattered about and the girls loved them.

I wanted her to sit on the coyote like she was riding it but it was too hot.

Next up, an ox.

There were different areas in the park that were set up for different years.
I think this was 1846 but I can't remember for sure.

We walked through all the buildings and then I got everyone to go up on the balcony and I went outside to take their picture up there.

Right around that time, they started doing a demonstration on how to press furs so they were easier to travel with.

It was riveting stuff.

The guy that did the talking for the presentation was actually quite funny.

They asked for some volunteers from the audience so Haylee took Freya over there.

She got to lay one of the furs in the press but she did it on the other side so I couldn't see her.

She was proud of her work though!

More metal animal statues.
The girls loved them.

They just love the little baby duck.

She was loving finding all the animals.

Next up was a sled dog.

I wanted them to sit on him to but that was a no go.

They just opened this Indigenous People Experience in the park so we checked that out.

When you first walk in, there was this light show all over the floor which was pretty neat.
We weren't really supposed to take pictures in there so I snuck this one quickly.

The center wasn't really all that interesting for Freya so we went through it pretty fast, I just took her back out so she could run around outside.

The next thing we did was go for a pony ride.
There was a bit of line up to get tickets because you had to sign a waiver but eventually it was time for the ride.

Zepplyn got her pony first.

Freya wanted to wait for this little guy.

She looks like she's not sure what to think.

She wasn't scared at all but she didn't want to let go of Daddy's hand.

Zepp on her pony.
They went around the loop a few times.

Kody and Haylee stayed with Freya the whole time.

They only went around a couple times but I think she really enjoyed it.

I think this might have been her first solo ride on a pony.

All done - patting the pony to thank him for a nice ride.

Coming to the home stretch of the ride.

She enjoyed it!

We saw some piggies.

So we stopped to say Hi.
He was very curious about Jason.

Freya didn't want to get too close - I don't blame her, they were cute but they were also stinky and dirty.

We saw some goats next.

There were some turkeys and chickens just roaming around free.

Freya really wanted to pet one.

Unfortunately they weren't that keen on being pet.

She gave it her best try though.

Next up was 1940 street I think.
There were shops all along the street.

A  covered wagon too.

Freya was upset because we made her stop chasing the chickens so we spend most of the time on this street just holding her and trying to calm her down.
Her mouth was bothering her too and she was tired so she wasn't happy for a bit there.

We stopped and had a bit to eat, Jason and I just shared some popcorn.
Then we took Freya for a bit of a walk.
We were hoping she might have a bit of a nap, we really should have brought her stroller.
Next time!

We made our way back to the front of the park where there were some carnival rides.
Freya saw what looked like a slide and wanted to go down it but it ended up just being a bride in the maze so she was really disappointed.

There was a fun house with funny mirrors so we took her in there and lo and behold, they had a couple slides in there so she was super happy.

We went down those several times.

They had little rides just perfect for her - they were manually run which was kind of neat.

She picked which bug she wanted.

Riding a bug.

There was a mini carousel as well that was also manually run and she went on that next.

She liked it.

Carousel ride.

We went back and forth between the two rides a few times, she really wanted to ride the kitty one.
She was getting braver too.

She was really trying to get a closer look at what the cat had in it's mouth.

After the rides, she was pretty much done.
I think because her mouth started bothering her again, she really just wanted to settle down somewhere with a bubba.

We took her to the gift shop and got her settled watching YouTube videos but we couldn't find any milk.

Looks like someone else was done too.

I left them there and went back into the park to get Kody's keys so we could get her bottle.

Those guys were on the Ferris wheel.

They had to wait in line for quite some to even get on the ride and it took forever to load.

Then I think they were on the ride for less than 2 minutes.
They were pretty much ready to go by this point as well.

Zepp did want to try this ride out before we left the park.

We got back to the hotel and took the girls down to the pool to swim for a bit.
I was in the pool the whole time so I didn't take any pictures.

Afterwards, we were pretty hungry so we looked for a place to go and eat.
We found a place called Steack Grill and decided to give it a try.

They had a giant booth that we were all able to sit at together.
Haylee, Zepplyn, Crystal and Randy.

Jason, Freya, myself and Kody.

We ordered a salad that had blueberries and roasted pears on it.

And we shared a burger - it was pretty good.

When we got back to the hotel, we took the girls swimming again for a bit.
They both loved it.

Freya stayed in our room with us tonight.
We had to give her her medication and it was traumatizing to both her and us.
It was awful.
I wish there was another way!

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
