Back to School and Off to Vegas (Aug.27, 2025)

The kids started back to school today.

I think it's silly for them to go for two days then be off for a long weekend but weirdly, nobody checked with met o see what my opinion was.

Freya is off to Grade 2!

Jason was up early and went for a 30k run and I went out for a walk just because it was so nice out.

I stopped into Marshall's and did a little shopping, I got a couple zip up hoodies and some shorts for our trip.

Jen and the boys made it to St Albert and they happened to be staying in the same hotel.

The movers are only arriving with her stuff on Monday so they'll be staying here until then.

I had a little visit with them then I headed over to pick Jason up from his run so he could clean up back at the room then we checked out.

Then we went to the Italian supermarket to get a bite to eat.

I picked a couple of their sandwiches to try - Jason and I shared.
We tried the Chicken Pesto (which I didn't like), the New York Pastrami (which was just ok) and the Turkey Swiss which was my favorite.
We also got the Spicy Sub that Jason always likes to get there - it's really good too.

We did a bit more shopping then we headed over to the Park2Go to drop off the car.

Our flight was at 5:30 so we wanted to be to the airport by 3:30 and we were right on time.
Security was a breeze and we were at the gate waiting to board in no time.

We had the row to ourselves which was nice.
There were a bunch of Jiu Jitsu fighters on the plane with us and we remembered that it was the same thing last year.
There must be a competition there this time of year.

Flying over the mountains.

This might be Mead Lake.

Made it to Vegas at 7:20.
We got a taxi from the airport over to the Strat.
The taxi driver was chatty - very nice.

We are staying at the Strat again - it's where we've been staying the last few times - we like this end of the strip, being close to the Arts District.

We got one of the upgraded rooms - we did last time too and it's worth it to us.
In the other rooms, the sinks are just small pedestal sinks and they are outside of the bathroom which I don't really like.
It's awkward and there is nowhere to put your toiletries.

It's a nice big spacious room as well.

It was late once we got settled it but we were hungry so we decided to go get something to eat.

We both love Viva Las Arepas which is just a couple blocks from the Strat so that's where we headed and we had a feast.

Jason tried their beef soup - it was really tasty.

I had the Cachapa which I always get.
It is so delicious.
We share it and we never finish it because it is a lot but we have it usually a couple times every time we come to Vegas.

We also shared an  Avocado Arepa.

Their passionfruit juice is so good too - we always have that when we come as well.
The food is really fantastic here, I would highly recommend it.

I noticed they had a cinnamon roll with anise in it that I wanted to try.
I went to buy it  but the owner insisted on just giving it to us for free.
It was really good too.

After we filled our bellies, we went for a little walk.
Then we headed back to our room to settle in for the night.
We didn't do any gambling today at all.

That's it for today, until next time, be happy!
