Off To Calgary In The Freezing Cold (Jan.14, 2020)

I had a meeting to get to in Calgary at 2:30 so I was on the road by 7 am.
It was a cold one out there.

The temperature gauge in the truck doesn't go any lower than -40C.

But when I stopped for a coffee and had a look, it was showing -42C out there.
This was close to 9 am so I figure when I left at 7 this morning, it was even colder.

Kind of is!

It took almost an hour for me to feel warm in the truck.
I was pretty toasty after that.
It was actually nice and peaceful to drive and watch the sun come up.

Kind of pretty.

It was so cold that everything was just white.
This isn't snow, it's just the air.

I stopped for gas in Barrhead and you could barely see anything.

This is the road.
I had to drive super slow.
Thankfully it didn't stay like this the whole entire time - that would have been a long drive.

Heard some good tunes on my drive.

I stopped in Red Deer at Tim Hortons for a pee break and some lunch.
While I was there, my SIL, Miss M, sent me this drawing that Mr H did for me.
Awww, it's so sweet.

It was close to 2 when I finally arrived in Calgary.
I was staying at the Residence Inn downtown which is a fairly new hotel, just opened in October.
They had no room left in their underground parking so I had to go park in a lot next door which annoyed me because I couldn't plug the truck in.
In the end, it was fine so my annoyance was wasted.

The room was really nice.

I've not seen a lay out like it before but I liked it.

There was a kitchen area, a living room area and a nice king size bed.

There was a great view of the Calgary Tower from my room.

After I checked in and dropped my things off in my room, I headed over to the office.
I had to walk and it was still super cold out.
I had my scarf wrapped around my face and it was making my glasses fog up and then they actually froze up.
I had to take them off to be able to see.

I found my way and got to my meeting in time.
Then I had another meeting after that.
Once the meetings were done, I found a computer to work on and answered some emails before heading back to the hotel.

I still needed some steps so I found the gym.

The treadmills had screens that looked like tv's but you couldn't get any channels on them.
You could watch YouTube so that's what I ended up doing.

The first machine I started on suddenly just froze up and I couldn't get it going again so I moved over to the next treadmill.
So I was actually on it for longer than this.

Here are the workout stats from the second treadmill.

Looking pretty rough but I got my 10,000 steps in.

There was a coffee shop attached to the hotel so I went there to get some supper.
They had salads and sandwiches pre-packaged that they make every morning.
I had a salad.

And a sandwich.
They were ok but I think I'll find somewhere else tomorrow night.

I took the food back to my room and got comfy on the couch.
I ate then blogged a bit before calling it a night.

Back home today, My Honey gave Miss H and Baby F a ride to Barrhead.
She had to work the next couple of days.
Baby F was all ready to go in her favorite coat and hat.

Look at that sweet smile.

Now she's looking kind of serious.
My Honey just loves spending time with her so he was happy to give them a ride.
My son went for the drive too and they went and looked at vehicles at a few dealerships in Barrhead but I don't think he found anything that really interested him.
He's looking though and he'll find something eventually.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy.

Weigh In and Too Cold! (Jan.13, 2020)

I weighed in first thing when I got to work today.
We are having a mini weight loss competition and this will be my starting weight.
We are trying something different this time.
To avoid folks losing interest, it's only going to be 4 weeks long
We'll see how it goes.

Work was super busy.
I'm heading to Calgary tomorrow for a few days for meetings so I was trying to clear everything off of my desk.

I had to curl tonight, I would have preferred to stay home, it was super cold out.

-37C when I left the rink to go home, that's just too cold!

When I got home, I packed up for my trip.
I didn't have to hop on the treadmill at all, got my steps in just between work and curling.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!

Big Girl Bed (Jan.12, 2020)

We had breakfast at the hotel then we headed out to do a few things before heading home.
I picked up some wood to make a new desk in my craft room and we were searching for crib conversion kit for Baby F without any luck.
Turns out they aren't universal and you have to order them.
They take 8 to 10 weeks to come in.
I figured we might as well just buy a bed instead and when I called Miss H to let her know, turns out she found a bed on the buy and sell just this evening.
It was meant to be.
It's a double though so instead of the crib converter, I picked up a double mattress for the new bed.

Before we left the city, we stopped for donairs.
There is a place in the WestMount mall that we happened upon a year or so ago that was really good.
The service is really good too.

We got one large on and shared it.

I wanted the sweet sauce and My Honey doesn't like it so we got some tzatsiki sauce for him.

After we ate, we hit the road and headed home.

When we got to town, we went and picked up the bed Miss H had found and dropped it off to their place.
We helped them to put it up.

Little Miss climber was at it again.

She just loves to climb over everything and is so proud of herself when she does.

Checking out her new bed.

She thought it was great.
There was only 3 narrow supports underneath so she ended up slipping in by the headboard which definitely won't do.
She wasn't hurt, just surprised.
So she won't be sleeping in it tonight.
My Honey is going to see if we have a sheet of plywood to put under the mattress and if not, we'll pick one up.

Guess what she wanted to put on again?

Ha Ha - Just chilling with My Honey and munching on a few cheesies.

She had him up and about, picking things up in the house for her.

She's always giving sideways looks and they are so darn cute.

Love, love, love her.

Look how adoringly she looks at My Honey.
So sweet.

Then mommy mentioned bath time and she was off.

Good night!

That is all for today, until next time, be happy!

Symphony (Jan.11, 2020)

We weren't in a huge rush to get to the city so when we woke up, we had coffees and breakfast and just kind of puttered around for a few hours.

Eventually we decided we should get ready and head out.
Don't know what it is about suitcases but as soon as Paddington sees an open one, he's in it.

We packed all around him and he just stayed put.

It was about 2:30 when we finally headed in.
The roads were nice and clear and it was a sunny day so nice day for a drive.

Lunch was our first stop when we made it to the city.
My Honey wanted his favorite, pho, which was fine with me.
I had green onion cakes for an appetizer.
They normally come with Thai sweet chilli sauce for dipping but I always ask for their fish sauce instead, I just love the stuff!
I drop my onion cakes in it so they can soak up as much as possible.

I had a bowl of pho too and it was really good.
Seemed to have a lot of noodles this time and less broth.
I prefer the opposite but I can never finish either way and today was no exception.

After we ate we did a bit of shopping.
I was looking for a pair of dress pants because I have to go to Calgary next week for work and I don't really have any nice dress pants.

We went to West Edmonton Mall because a few stores I like are there (Pennington's and Addition Elle) and also, we wanted to get our steps in.

I did end up finding some pants and a really nice pink summery jacket for $23.00!
I was happy about my find.

Once I had that done, I walked to the other end of the mall just to get some steps in.
I connected with My Honey and when we got to the food court at the other end of the mall we were pleasantly surprised to find this....

Potato Corner.
It's the place we fell in love with in Albuquerque.
We just had to have some.
I guess they opened here in October so just a few months ago.

We shared an order, half cheddar, half sour cream.
They were just as good as I remember.

My Honey looked the chain up while we were eating and it turns out it got it's start in the Philippines back in 1992, almost 30 years ago!

We walked some more after that until I got my 10,000 steps then it was time to head downtown to the Winspear Center.

We had a bit of a hard time finding a spot but it's always like that downtown.
We had a bit of a walk from the spot that we found and it was really cold outside.
We are heading into a super cold snap here in Alberta.
I know there are a lot of homeless people here and I really feel for them, I was frozen just walking outside for 5 minutes.

We were seeing Beethoven's Eroica Symphony.

We were fairly close to the front so we could see the musicians really well.
I enjoy watching their facial expressions while they play.

Ready for the show to start.

There was a pianist - Charles Richard-Hamelin that joined them for a bit.
He was really fantastic.
He came out for an encore and dedicated his performance to the folks that were lost in the flight that was just shot down in Iran.
Such a tragedy.

When we got back outside it was even colder.
There was a guy out there busking, playing music and singing for money so we just had to give him some.

We went straight to the hotel and checked in.
I was looking at Facebook a bit and saw that Miss H had posted a couple of pictures of Baby F.
I just love her in pigtails, they look so cute on her.

There she is in her coat and hat again, she just loves it.

This is 100% me!

That is all for today, until next time, be happy!
