Palm Springs - Si Bon, Living Desert Zoo, Handel's Ice Cream, Jersey Mike's and Del Taco (Mar.4, 2026)

We found a different park this morning to go for our walk.

It was kind of small, not very remarkable.

But we walked around it anyway until we got 5k in, I think it took three times around.

Then Jason found a restaurant nearby with good ratings so we went there for some brunch.
Si Bon.

They had outdoor seating so of course you know that's where we sat.

I was hurting a bit from all the sun yesterday, we both had to lather up with some after sun lotion but not terrible enough to put us out of commission.

I went to the bathroom and I loved the doors so when Jason went after me, I got him to take pictures.
This is the ladies.

This is the mens.

Jason said this tissue dispenser was in the mens room.

I had the Jalisco Corn Biscuits with Beef Tenderloing Fajitas.
It wasn't exactly what I was expecting but it was good.

Jason had the Croque Monsieur which had ham and gruyere on a waffle and it was really tasty.

Then I also ordered the mango stuffed Belgian waffles with berries and custard for 'dessert'.
It was also very good.

We sat in the outdoor patio but I had to take some pictures of the indoors because I just loved the decor in there, it was so funky and interesting.

I like these branches they had all over.

This was the bar when you first walked in.

Then this was the outdoor patio where we sat.

We decided to go check out the Living Desert Zoo today.

There was this giant fly just outside of the entrance.
Kind of creepy but also fun.

They had all of these giant animals and insects scattered all throughout the zoo and they moved and made noises.
I loved them.

I knew that had rhino's so I was excited to see them because I'd never seen one in person before.
This fellow was having a rest and his lady friend was hiding from the sun and the heat under the bridge so we never did get to see her.

Next up was the giraffes.
I love giraffes - they are so graceful.

For 10 bucks a pop, you could buy some lettuce to feed them.

They were loving it.

Giraffes.

I really could just stand and watch them all day.

Their tongues are so long.

Feeding the giraffe.

Jason's turn.

1it really was a great experience.

Getting to see them up close like this was pretty amazing!

They are so graceful but also kind of goofy looking as well.

Another giant moving critter.

An emu I think?

A couple of porcupines!

Warthogs

Look at the tusks on that guy!

Chilling in the shade.

Next up was the monkeys.
I love watching them.

The zookeepers were putting out food for the monkeys then we got to watch them come out and find it and eat.

They were fun to watch.

Vultures.

Camels.

Tortoise

I think these were storks.

There were zebras.

Giant insect.

Long eared fox having a snooze.

These were painted wild dogs all just laying together having a nap.

Giant spider.

I think this one was a bee or a wasp.

It was pretty cool looking.

There were so many different animals.

Another giant moving bug!

A map of the zoo.

More giant bugs.

There were so many of them.

They were all motion activated and would move and make sounds.

A bit hard to see but there were mountain goats.

More giant moving bugs.

Rosy Maple Moth.

The zoo itself had some of the nicest grounds I've ever seen at a zoo.

Next up were the wolves,

They had a three legged wolf.

There she is!

These are peccaries.

I had never even heard of a Peccarie until today.

I love these metal cut out doors.

American Hoverfly.

Giant palm trees.

You could go right inside this caged in area and there were owls.

Little gophers or prairie dogs.

Little teeny owls.

Lots of interesting looking desert plants.
I would not want to trip and fall into this spiky one.

Giant butterfly.

Giant Hummingbird.

Some other giant insect

A Scarab Beetle

There was a splash park - a great place to cool off on a hot day like today.

Such a pretty, clean, well maintained zoo.

I think it is one of the nicest we've ever been to.

Giant Scorpian.

Then they had this huge model train set up.

It was a very elaborate set up.

There were all different tracks with lots of trains all going.

Lots of little scenes set up.

A mini version of the zoo complete with a mini 'giant bug'.

So many little details to look at.

A little farm with a t-rex.

There was this big elaborate bridge.

It was built right into the edges of the 'cliff' like a train track would be.

There was a mini version Marilyn Monroe statue like the one in downtown Palm Springs.

A mini windmill like the ones near our hotel.

And a mini version of the local car wash.

It just went on and on.
I really liked it.

Pure Green Sweat Bee - never heard of one of these before.

A blue winged wasp.

Pretty flowers in bloom.

1made it to Australian Adventures.

A Kookaburra

They had an enclosure with wallabies and you could go right in with them, you just were not allowed to touch them.

But you could get fairly close.

They remind me of mini kangaroos.

Some of them were up on these ledges hanging out.
They were hard to see at first.

They are pretty chill.

This one was laying right in the middle of the walking path.

See, looks like a baby kangaroo!

There were a whole bunch of them in there.

A few more giant bugs, a caterpillar.

A ladybug.

And this strange looking thing.

A tabacco hornworm.

It had other little bugs on it.

They were called Parasitoid Wasps.

They have a state of the art hospital on site with two vets and vet assistants on staff where they take very good care of the animals.
We were given a tour of it and it was pretty amazing.
I'm glad we went, I really enjoyed it.

Afterwards we went for ice cream at a local spot that we found, Handel's.

Mine

Jason's.
It was melting so we had to eat it super fast.

We did some shopping - I thought these little slip-ons at Sketchers were cute.

There was a Jersey Mike's nearby so we had subs for lunch/supper.
Then we parked in a shopping area and Jason headed out for a 21k run.

While he ran, I went for a walk and ended up on El Paseo Drive again.

It really is a very nice area.

Jason saw this little guy.

I did a 5k walk then just shopped around in the stores nearby where we'd parked until he was done.

We'd been seeing all these Del Tacos around (they are a fast food chain) and Jason's been wanting to try them.
So for a treat after his run, we walked to the one near our hotel and ordered a few thins to try.
All of this plus an orange shake came to under 20 bucks.

It was all pretty good too.
The crispy taco was my favorite.
I would go back anytime and eat there again!

Back home, Freya got an award at school.

Student of the Month!!!
So proud of her.

Limped my Fitbit through another day and got all my steps in plus a few extra.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
