And We Are Off to Golden, BC (July 31, 2024)

Today is the day!

We are heading to BC for vacation and we are all so excited.

 

I googled directions to Golden because that's where we are staying tonight - we had booked rooms in Valemount but with the fire in Jasper and the highway being closed we are not able to go that way.

We did encounter a highway that said closed to local traffic only right after Edson  but to turn around at that point would have added over an hour and a half to our drive so we decided to take our chances.

We figure the worst that would happen is they would turn us around but the highway ended up being very quiet, no issues at all.

That highway did turn into another highway which ended up being a gravel road for over 100kms which kind of sucked and it was very remote, no homes or stores or gas or anything at all.

Then once we turned onto highway 11 we saw another sign for another closed highway and we thought we had to turn around until we realized it was closed going north and we were going south so all good.

It's a long drive for a little kid and when you are in the mountains there is no internet so she couldn't be distracted with YouTube, so we stopped and let her get out for a walk and a break.

It was a really nice day so it was nice to get out and enjoy a little of it even if it was only for a very short time.

The lake is just this stunning blue color - it's pretty wonderful.

We got stuck in some backed up traffic (I think there was an accident) so the last 40 minutes of our drive ended up taking about two hours which kind of sucked but what can you do?

When we got to Golden the others were already there (except Rob and Randy who went the same way we did but did turn around at Edson at that closed highway).

They were all in swimming so Freya and Jason joined them.

I would have as well but I was really hungry and wanted to go for something to eat.

We found a spot called The Wolf's Den and Jason and I went there.

Jason.

Moi.

We shared a salad.

And a burger and some butternut squash soup which was delicious.

Afterwards Jason and I went for a walk so I could get in the rest of my steps - it took a while because I needed a lot.

By the time we got back to the room, everyone was in bed so we just went to bed too.

Chavonne took Mom for a walk by the shore today down in PEI and sent me this picture.

Mom's really enjoying her time there.
