New York City Day 5

Got an early start today as we had tickets to go over to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  Glad we got there when we did because the line up grew to be humongous after we got there.  We've never been before and figured the 4th of July would be a great day for it.

It was already proving to be a gorgeous day and aside from a group of runners waiting to leave, ours was the first group of the day so it was nice and quiet. I figured they were a group of runners as they were all wearing bibs and race medals (I know, I'm a regular Coloumbo). I looked for runs that were happening while we were here but couldn't find any? I will have to keep it in mind for if we are here at this time again next year. I think it was called the Liberty 5K.

This little girl was all decked out in her red, white and blue (lots of folks were).

Enjoying the ferry ride over, I just love being on a boat.

There were some Canadian Geese waiting on the island to great us!

Posing with the lady of the day,
his.....

Hers.......

Theirs

We saw lots of people holding up flags from lots of different countries

This is a replication of her actual foot

A view of the New York City skyline

We came across this ride called Seaglass. It was like looking into an aquarium and inside was a carousel.......

but instead of horses it had sea creatures that you could ride on.

We hopped on the Subway next for the long trek out to Coney Island

These peoples homes were right next to the subway, like RIGHT next. Don't think I would like that.

We arrived just as they were announcing the winner of the annual hot dog eating contest.  Joey Chestnut won his title back by eating 70 hotdogs in 10 minutes (a record), WOW. That takes some kind of skills.

And now the count down to next years contest starts.

Just hanging on the boardwalk.

It was packed with people.....

They were everywhere!, walking down to the water was like going through an obstacle course of humans.

Even though we didn't bring bathing suits, we wanted to at least check out the water. Once I got down there and saw it I don't think I would have swam in it anyway.

Walking on the beach was like going through an obstacle course of umbrellas .....

and humans!

We had Wahlburgers for lunch.  We opted for take out because the line was so long and still waited about 45 minutes for our food.

I love perusing the grocery stores in the states as I always discover things we can't get at home. Todays finds.....

Sure wish we had prices like this for produce at home too!

Love, love, love mangos!

What a steal, 6 lemons for $1!

We headed to Greenpoint Ave as we wanted to go to Paulie Gee's for supper, the wait was too long though so we found another pizza place with a cute little garden area.

The sun made its mark on me today!

Our food was taking a long time again!

Our meatball appetizer. The tomato sauce was delicious. We cleaned the dish!

I opted for the spinach pizza because it had pine nuts which I love. It was good too!

Love how all the buildings get into the spirit of things.

Our hotel has a rooftop area for the use of guests so we went up there to watch the fireworks.  It was raining a little a first.

But it cleared up by the time the show started and we had a pretty good view.

They really put on quite a show.  Pictures just don't do them justice.  My honey was able to catch this shot of the happy face fireworks.  I saw them for the first time last year and thought they were just so cool!  Amazing what they can do.

No shows tonight so as we were already at the hotel we had an "early" night tonight.
Looking forward to tomorrows adventures.
Until next time, be happy!
