From Bemidji to Duluth (Oct.13, 2024)

I had been looking forward to renting a bike and riding around the lake today before we left but we woke up to a very rainy, windy day so that wasn't going to be in the cards.

It wasn't just a little windy, it was knock you over windy.

So an interesting fact about Bemidji is that it is where the Mississippi River begins.

Right at this bridge is there the Mississippi River meets Lake Bemidji.

There was a bit of a break in the rain so we went for a walk down by the lake/river.

Even on this gray dreary day it was still very pretty.

We checked out a few art installations before we left town, like this statue.

Then of course Paul Bunyan and Babe are very famous in these parts so there were giant statues of them.

Photo op.

There was a nice downtown area that wasn't open today but would have been a nice area to walk around had it been open.

I'm going to miss these pretty fall colors when we go home.

We were headed to Duluth for the night which was a few hours away so after a little sight seeing in Bemidji, we hit the road.

I've been using an e-simm card when we travel and it allows me to use the gps on my phone for directions but my sim ran out on the drive so my phone wasn't working anymore so we had to follow signs like back in the olden days but we made it!

When we made it to Duluth, we found a parking spot downtown and decided to go for a walk around to check things out.

It had a super cute downtown area - lots of little shops.

Big Foot.
I searched for some mittens because it was chilly but I had no luck.

Jason had done some research and found this spot that had great reviews that he wanted to try, Northern Waters Smokehaus.

It was underground and very busy.

They do sandwiches.

It was hard to decide because there were so many options and I wanted to try lots of them.

Jason went with the Club-Mariner.

And I ended up going with the Hedonist - I love pate.

Waiting for our food.

I love the brick walls and old wood beams in the place.

I think if I lived here I would come here often.

Our cozy little corner.

The sandwiches were made fresh.

Look at that thick slab of liver pate - so good.

We also got the olive appetizer.

They had a deli section in the back - lot of smoked fish.

Then we just did some more walking around.

Found an ice cream spot.

They make it in house.
Lots of good flavors.

I liked the artwork in the place - it was done by a local artist.

It was all around the entry way.

We tried the six pack and these are the six flavors we went with.

You got a scoop of each in this kind of mini egg carton - what a great idea.
The ice cream was delicious.

I love the old buildings.

The architectural details were cool.

There was some neat artwork scattered around the downtown area.

Duluth

Like the bike planter.

We came across a bridge so you know we had to walk across it.

It was just a short bridge but there were some nice views.

Lighthouse.

There looked like a nice walking area along the water.

More nice old buildings.
I like arched widows.

Windy day but we didn't let that stop us.

This is looking back over across the bridge from where we started.

There is a walkway all along the water on that side too.

The bridge was a lifting bridge which was cool and we got to see it in action a bit later.

It was down right now but it lifts up to let tall boats through.

My handsome honey.

Duluth

There were some surfers out on the waves so we stood and watched them for awhile.

The waves were pretty crazy!

We walked back over the bridge to the downtown area and saw a few more art pieces.

The fish were neat.

From there we decided to head to our hotel and call it a night.
Jason is really feeling the marathon this time - he continued to run when he had a sore leg and I think he aggravated it further so it might take him a bit longer to heal after this one.

Back  home, Crystal took the girls on a Halloween excursion - took them to a haunted house.

It was a fair too.

They look pretty happy!

Spooky.

She loves spooky stuff so that would have been right up her alley.

Walking down a dark alley - ooooooh!

This girlie loves her some chicken wings.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
