Duluth to Minneapolis - Duluth Grill, Matt's and Mall of America (Oct.14, 2024)

We'll be heading back to Minneapolis today but first, another trip to downtown Duluth for some breakfast.

The sky was looking pretty and you get a great view of the lake as you drive towards the downtown area.

We researched restaurants and decided on this spot for breakfast - Duluth Grill.

I like the big covered entryway.

The patio area had some neat things like this tree.

And this wizard.

It was a really nice restaurant.

The menu had a lot of very interesting options.

I chose the leeky waffle.

It was soo good - I loved it.

Jason had the Lamb Bene (lamb benedict), he loved it.

It came with side of grits and they were delicious too.

Then we shared a slice of pie for dessert.
The food there was amazing -  I wish we had more time there so we could go back and try more of the menu.

Back outside - their outdoor seating area had lots of plants still in bloom.

Some of the pots had veggies growing in them, like the kale in this pot.
Pretty but also practical.

Some of the climbing vines were tomato plants.

Cute gnome.

I bet this is an amazing spot in the summer time when everything is in full bloom.

There were still flowers in bloom this late in the season.

I love a clematis.

I wish I could grow them at home but we just don't have the weather for it.

We went back to the hotel and checked out then back downtown again to do some further exploring before hitting the road.

We just parked in a random spot downtown and started walking.

Look at the designs on the building.

Cute little ghosties in a window.

More nice old buildings.

A nice ketchup tree.

These vines growing up the building looked so pretty.

We found a sign that pointed to a walkway so we followed it to see where it would take us.

And it took us out by the water - bow gorgeous.

This is the beach area and you can see the lift bridge there off in the distance.

It was crisp but a lovely day for a walk along the water.

Look at that sky.

Art installation.

I think this would be such a nice place to go for a run.

I think we've both kind of fallen for Duluth and I hope we get to come back again and spend more time here.

Those fall colors - so gorgeous.

We met lots of folks out walking, enjoying the day, just like us.

I love the sparkle on the water.

More pretty colors.

We happened upon this big place that we went in and checked out - Fitger's.
It's a big deal around here apparently.

It was a mall full of shopping.

Creepy pumpkin head guy.

It kind of reminded me of Chelsea Market in NYC for some reason.

Ooooooh, I wonder where this leads to?

We followed the path all the way to the end.

It led to an ice cream store - unfortunately it was closed for the season.

We had some nice views from there over to the water though.

There was a nice seating area too where you could have sat and ate the ice cream if you were able to get any.

Such a great old building.

This is the road side of the building.

Then this is the back of it next to the lake.

Fitgers has been around since 1881 and these buildings were built between 1886 and 1911.

You can get down to the pathway by the water.

Jason noticed something along the rocks by the water.

It was a Sally door washed ashore.

So Jason rescued her and then we did a photo shoot with her.
We ended up taking her home, washing her up and giving her to Freya.

I love a vine covered wall.

The murals on the stairs back up to the path were really great.

There were all different patterns.

So I had to take pictures of them all.

I like all the different background colors.

There were portraits too.

Very nice work.

Interesting.

Another great old building.

That is the path that we were walking along.

The buildings though.

Another entrance to the lake path just randomly between some buildings.

We decided to get some dessert before heading out of town and found this little spot, 3rd Street Bakery.

We picked a few things to try.

Mostly cookies - they were good but nothing blew us away.
That was our last stop in Duluth and then we hit the highway for Minneapolis.

It was about a 2.5 hour drive - uneventful which is good.

Our first stop when we hit Minneapolis was Matt's for the Juicy Lucy.

It is supposedly the home of the 'original'.

It was crazy busy and we were lucky to get a table when we did - there ended up being quite a line right after and folks were waiting for quite some time.

They have just a small menu.
We each had a Jucy Lucy and we shared some fries.

The burger doesn't look like anything special.

But it's stuffed full of cheese that comes flowing out when you bite into it.

The fries were nothing special but they were very good.

Gorgeous tree across the street from Matt's.

We had some time so figured we would go check out Minnehaha Falls.
More pretty trees in the parking lot.

It was a nice park and a nice evening for a walk.

We found the falls in no time at all.

Very pretty!

My Honey and I.

Look at that orange colored tree just peeking through there.

You could walk down to the bottom of the falls so we did that.

Then there were trails all along the river/stream so we just wandered along those.

Another great location to go for a run.

There was a stone bridge crossing the stream.

So we crossed over.

We just kept walking and came to another bridge.

It was nice and we would have liked to keep walking but it was getting dark so we headed back.
We ended up getting kind of lost but thank goodness for GPS - it helped us make it back to the car.

We knew we'd made it back because we recognized this building from when we'd arrived.

It was still early so we decided to go spend a bit of time at the Mall of America.

There was this installation of all of these football helmets - they were huge.

And look at them all.

The ceiling was even cool.

Pretty trees in a store window.

I think they are just made with scarves - I like them.

They were advertising a new store that is opening - I just liked the artwork.

All the different 'Minnesota's were neat too.

It's a really cool mall - there is a lego store with some amazing builds on display.

You can sit on the bench with these lego girls for a picture.

These lego characters are so amazing.

There was a helicopter even.

A rollercoaster.

Toy store.

There is the lego store.

Spongebob.

They had a Fly Over in the mall - you could chose between a couple different ones, we chose Hawaii.

I think it might have been an older one because it was a bit blurry in parts but it was still good and we enjoyed it.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

We headed to our hotel room after that, we had a place right by the mall and right by the airport.
We got packed up and ready for our flight tomorrow.

Back home, Mom was enjoying herself at my Uncle Gerald's house.

Morgan, Kalem, Whitney and Kalem's siblings.
Looks like a nice day back in Alberta.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
