North Cape, Visit With Family and Back to School. (Sept.7, 2021)

First thing on the agenda for today - run!

We were off to the Confederation Trail again.

What an awesome place to run!

I did just over 6k.

My exercise details - they are kind of skewed.

My Fitbit charge ran out just as I was finishing up so I wasn't able to stop it when I finished my run.
As you can see, that last km took me quite some time, ha ha.

I put it on the charger as soon as we got back to the house but I didn't realize it was still tracking me for running until I put it back on (at which point the longest km in history came to an end).

We walked back through the garden by the church on our way home, it's so pretty.

I love a good tree lined path (or road) and these trees are gorgeous.

Love this rustic looking fence too.
It doesn't serve any purpose really other than looking good but it certainly does that well!

When we got home, we picked Mom up and went for a drive.

We ended up at the North cape and Jason and I went for a walk on the beach.

It is usually quite windy up here but today turned out to be a really nice day.

I think walking along the beach is one of my favorite things to do.

The water was just so calm today.

That ocean air just frizzes my hair right up.

The beach of my childhood is just a few miles up the shore from here and looks exactly like this.

We went for a walk up around the cape.
Where those waves are is where the Northumberland Strait and the Gulf of St Lawrence meet.

I got a picture of Jason taking some pictures, ha ha.

It is a pretty nice view.

I couldn't tell for sure but I think the black on the sand bar are a bunch of seals lounging in the sun.

The rocky sandy beach.

We left there and went to Our Family Traditions in Tignish to get some lunch.
(It used to be called Cousins and before that Paul's Diner).

They had two Burger Love Options, the Tignish Triple Decker.

And the Cluckin Buffalo Express.

The waitress gave us this list of ingredients on each of the burgers.

I think we'll try as many burgers as we can while we are here but I feel like I shouldn't really be voting unless I try them all.
We'll see what happens.

They've done some renovating in here - it looks really good.

I love the light fixtures.

Mama.

Jason and I. and my frizzy, frizzy hair.

We ordered both of the Burger Love specials to share.
This is the Chicken one.

And the Tignish Triple Decker.
They were both really good.
Honestly, I've said it before but I'll say it again - you can't really go wrong with a burger in PEI, we haven't had a bad one yet.

They had homemade desserts so I just had to try the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting - one of my all time favorite desserts.

After we ate, we went and did some visiting with my Uncle Wade and Aunt Brenda.

My cousin Troy dropped his son Charlie off while we were there so I got to see both of them as well.
It's so different now that my Grandmother is gone - there isn't a 'hub' where everyone meets anymore.
I really miss that.

We stopped at the Fisheries and got some oysters today so we ate those up when we got home.

We also ate up some of the fruit we'd been hauling around with us since my sister's place.
It was pretty darn good with all the whipped cream up on top.

The boys were back to school today.
Ethan looks excited about it.

Not sure that's how you wear your mask Declan.

That's better!

And he's off.
Cool book bag.

He's so grown up!
😢 but also😍!

First day of school selfie with mom - Ethan version.

Declan version.

How many times has traffic been backed way up then you get up to 'the thing' that had it backed up and it's nothing?
I can so relate.
So this just made me giggle.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!

Visit With An Old Friend and More Burger Love (Sept.6, 2021)

I had a couple hours to spend with my sister this morning until she had to head back to NS.

The boys are starting back to school tomorrow so she wanted to be back early enough to get everything prepared then get them to bed at a decent hour.

After she left, we got ready and headed out for a run.
The Confederation Trail just happens to start here in Tignish and it's such a great place to run we figured we might as well take advantage.

My exercise details.

I was amazed by my average pace and splits.
I feel like I'm exerting the same effort as when I'm home, just getting better results.
I guess running at sea level (and flat) really is easier.

After our run, we headed over to visit my friend Paula who used to live in Alberta but moved home to PEI a few years back.
We took Mom with us as she knows Paula as well.

We had to take a step ladder with us so Mom could get in and out of the truck.

Gus was so excited to see us, especially Jason who got right down with him and gave him some good loving.

Look how happy and content he is.

It was so nice to see Paula and catch up.
I really miss her a lot.
She's doing really well and very happy so while I miss her, I'm glad she's here.
At least I know I'll be coming here to visit for the rest of my life so I'll always be able to see her.

She has a new man in her life and they have a company together working on windmills - she does the books but is considering starting to go up on them to do repair work and just got her harness so she can get started.
She's braver than I am, I can tell you that.

We stayed for a good long visit!

We left there and went to look for a place to have supper.
With today being a holiday, we had hard time finding a place that was open and eventually ended up at Backwoods Burger in Tyne Valley.

Mom and I.

I ordered me an extra spicy virgin Caesar and it hit the spot!

Jason.

They had a Burger Love creation so you know we had to try it out.

The Fighting the Fall burger.
It had some interesting flavors on it, like granola and marshmallow.

Here is the actual ingredients list.

It was an interesting burger - I really liked it but I don't know if I'd consider it a favorite.
I commend them for really going all out and trying some interesting flavor combinations.

We also shared a regular burger.
Both were great and real hamburger patties - par for the course here in PEI.

We also had their bar clam poutine.

We also tried the Spin Dip Fries.
It was fries with local curds, spinach dip, tomato and green onion.
What a great combo.

They had sticky toffee pudding too so you know I wasn't leaving without trying that out.
It was fantastic.

Jason tried their chocolate chip cheesecake.
Not sticky toffee pudding level but still pretty good.

It was our second time eating there and we loved it.
Another spot that we'll try to hit each time we come to PEI from now on.

While it's great being here on the Island, I do miss our little Freya.

Crystal posted some pictures of them all hanging out - I think they went camping, and I was so happy to see them.

So funny - she's always got that bubba with her.

Kody and Haylee.

Someone posted this sculpture on social media - I forget where - I just really liked it.
