Jen and I both slept in later than we planned but we were tired and we really needed it.
We made it to the funeral home just before they sent everyone to their cars to follow the hearse to the church in Tignish for the funeral.
There were a lot of people at the funeral - My Uncle Gerald was a well liked and well known man.
He was born and raised in Tignish, lived here his entire life.
It's still surreal to me that he is gone.
After the funeral there was a reception at the Parish Center next to the church.
It was nice to be able to visit with family there and they had sandwiches, drinks, sweets and cheese and crackers.
Afterwards we headed back to Gerald's to hang out with the family there.
It was a nice day out and I needed to get some steps in so I asked if there were any nice trails around that I could go walk on.
Mallory (my cousin) said that a new one just opened at the back of the graveyard.
She said to just head down the main road then make a right.
The main road down the graveyard was not plowed but a truck had driven through so I was able to walk in the tire tracks.
It was a gorgeous sunny day, a touch cold but not terrible.
I walked down to the end of the road then went to the right like instructed - I didn't see an obvious path but I did see what looked like a snowmobile path so I kind of followed that.
The snow was a little deep, up to my ankles but I kept going and soon the snow was up to my knees.
I couldn't see anything like a path at all so I gave up and turned back.
When I got to the main road in the grave yard, I met a lady heading my way and I asked her if she knew about a path.
She said she was heading there now to go for a walk and invited me to join her so I did.
It turned out it was to the left after you got to the end of the road - there was a big sign and you could clearly see it was a well used path.
We walked together and chatted the whole time, introduced ourselves to each other.
Her name was Grace, she lives near Tignish and said she walks this trail pretty much every day.
It's a nice trail, it was created in memory of a lady who lived here but was killed in an accident on her way to work.
I really enjoyed the walk and look forward to coming back and checking it out next time we are on the Island.
I walked with Grace back to her car which she had parked at the church - she offered me a drive back to Gerald's but I wanted to walk.
I picked Jen up and we went to a local diner and got some must haves every time we come to the Island.
Fries with the works.
Then clam strips for me.
I love them but can't get them anywhere at home.
We picked dinner up for mom and Betty too.
Everyone in our family likes to have a fries with the works at least once on a trip to the island.
Jen and I.
Her head looks so little next to mine.
That's better.
My Aunt Brenda and cousin Amanda dropped by for a visit.
We made it to about 8 but we were both very tired so we said our good byes and headed back to Lisa and Todd's.
It's about a 40 minute drive so it was close to 9 pm when we got there.
Todd and Lisa have done a lot more work to their house since I was last year.
Lisa's craft room is like a dream!
I love these shelves they built in the play room - I might get Jason to build me something similar in the basement for the kids toys.
I discovered Reading Journal tutorials and flip throughs on You Tube and was watching them all evening before we called it a night around 11.
Got all of my steps in!
That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
