Today is my birthday!
Hard to believe that I'm in my mid fifties now, 54 to be exact!
It was a drizzly day out there but that didn't stop us from getting out and walking over to a breakfast place that Jason found.
He thought I would like it because they have home made biscuits - I am a biscuit lover!
Neat mural we saw along the way.
Milwaukee is a very clean city.
This truck was on the other side of the Public Market.
Very esthetic
Some Daffodils in bloom.
I think this is directed at Ice agents after all of the things that have been going on down here in the states over the last couple months.
We did not see a single Ice Agent on our trip.
Very different from what the media has been portraying.
I love the architectural details.
Guess Jason or I should have gotten in the picture.
More old, pretty buildings next to new, sleek modern ones.
They go together so well.
Another Milwaukee mural.
I love how colorful that tank on top of the building is.
I saw lots of shots of this bridge when we were researching Milwaukee, this was my first glimpse of it in person.
If it had been a nicer day, I think we would have made a point of walking across it.
We do like walking across bridges.
Colorful fence.
It was about a 30 minute walk to the breakfast spot.
Midwest Sud was the name of it.
I like the brick walls and the eclectic decor.
Of course I had a biscuit and jam.
Jason had a breakfast sandwich on a biscuit.
the biscuits looked huge and delicious but were unfortunately on the dry side.
Neither of us finished which is a very unusual thing for me.
They had a limited selection of baked goods so I also got a matcha cookie and it was fantastic - probably one of my favorite things I tried on the whole trip.
Someone lost their ball.
More old buildings.
It's so quiet, nobody was around.
Mural on the side of an old building.
This was on the sidewalk in front of the same building.
Me waiting for Jason while he takes pictures.
Gorgeous church.
Someone lost their headphones - wonder if it was the same person who lost their ball?
This seems to be a popular coffee chain around these parts.
Jason liked the juxtaposition of the neon red letters of the sign next to the old brick building.
We still haven't had Freya's artwork made in to stickers.
Haven't seen many out and about on this trip, this was the first I noticed.
The bobblehead museum.
We didn't visit this time but will for sure put it at the top of our list if we ever come back.
Walking back to our room.
These docks right outside of the apartments are so cool.
I like this area of the city.
I think it's great when old signs like this are still in tact.
Even the lamp posts and traffic lights look cool.
Random art.
We'd already checked out and put our luggage in the car so when we made it back to the hotel, we just hopped in the car and headed out.
We are off to check out Madison, Wisconsin and spend the night there.
It was just over an hour drive to Madison.
We stopped in a little suburb to go to this highly rated sandwich shop that Jason found.
Unfortunately, they had a sign up inside saying they were out of bread so no sandwiches today.
What are the odds?
We walked around a bit and passed an ice cream spot - it seemed like a nice day for ice cream so we partook.
I got the pistachio and it had real, large pistachios in it - usually pistachio ice cream has almond pieces.
This was some of the smoothest, creamiest ice cream I've ever had.
We were still hungry though so we looked for a spot to eat.
We ended up eating at a restaurant called Everly.
I got this rice dish that had kimchi, green onions, chilis and shrimp.
It was good but the spice crept up on me really fast to the point where my lips were burning so I couldn't eat anymore.
Jason got a breakfast burrito - it was huge.
There was a nice trail by a lake right where we parked and we had planned on going for a walk after we ate but it started raining and it was a downpour so we skipped it and headed in our hotel in Madison.
It was grey and slightly drizzly out but we only have the one night to explore so we headed out anyway.
The capitol building was right behind our hotel.
It's so pretty.
We headed over toward the water and found a trail.
Who doesn't love a good trail along the water?
Jason pondering life.
Saw this cool tree sculpture.
Spruced up electrical box.
Some nice old houses.
The whole lawn was covered in these budding blue flowers.
I think this is a magnolia tree and it was also in bloom.
It was in a park that was covered in those same blue budding flowers.
I'm not sure what kind of flowers they are but they are very pretty.
There were some daffodils popping up here and there too.
And a mini version of the metal tree sculpture we saw earlier in our walk.
Pretty mural on the side of a building.
Cute!
A pig in a fur coat.
Another mural I liked.
We'd been walking for about an hour and I had to use the ladies room plus we were getting hungry so we decided to pop in to this dumpling place we just happened to walk by.
We ordered some potstickers.
And some dumplings.
The food was amazing - we wished we'd ordered more,
We also shared a matcha tiramisu.
I would go out of my way to come here again.
We ended up in kind of a residential area.
One eyed kitty.
These old buildings are so cool.
I've said it before but I'll say it again - I love when they leave the old signs.
Interesting mail boxes.
We didn't go in here but we liked the sign.
More old buildings.
The man hole covers.
Drizzly but still nice.
A painted cow.
This looks like the van from Scooby-Doo.
The tree was all lit up with hanging lights but it wasn't quite dark enough to see it well in the picture.
I really like the downtown area - you definitely get the university town vibe,
We happened upon a pizza place that had good reviews so we thought we'd try a slice before heading back to our room for the night.
It was a funky spot inside.
I like there lights that looked like pizzas with a slice cut out.
Aren't they cool?
We lucked in and it wasn't that busy when we got there.
It got lined up right after we ordered.
I was happy to have my arm out of the sling for a bit.
We got three slices, a bbq chicken, a pepperoni and a potato and sour cream one.
They were all good - the pepperoni was our favorite as usual.
There was a comedian, Brad Williams, doing a show at the Orpheum tonight which might have been fun to see but we just didn't have the time.
Wisconsin Badgers mascot I'm assuming?
It was in a shop window.
This was in the hotel lobby.
We stayed at the Madison Concourse Hotel, it was very nice.
Got plenty of steps in today!
That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
