Jason did some research and found some trails not that far from where we were staying so we headed there first thing for his run and my walk.
The loop.
Looks like there are a lot of trails.
They were all paved then there was a dirt or 'soft' trail that ran sort of parallel to the paved one.
Pretty awesome.
Cool cactus along the trail.
Major desert vibes here.
The trail went off in tow directions so we just picked a way and went.
I had hoped to run today - I tried but it didn't go well - my ankle started hurting almost right off the bat so I decided to just stick with the walking.
I really enjoyed it though - the trails were great and the weather was beautiful.
Afterwards we found a spot for breakfast - Margie's Kitchen.
Another busy spot - I like when it's busy because that's usually a sign that it's good.
The menu.
I had pancakes - they were good.
We went back to the hotel and had a look around in the daylight.
There were a bunch of pickleball courts.
This is the area in behind where our room was.
I just love that nice big round tree.
There was lots of nice seating areas.
This walkway led to the pools. the building on the left is where our hotel room was and our window looked back into this area.
The building on the right was an indoor pool then there were a few more outdoor pools right in front of it.
The doors behind Jason are big open doors lead to the indoor pool
We hung out in the hot tub for a bit.
It was really large and spacious.
This is from in the hot tub looking over to the pool and there is another pool past that as well.
The hot tube had this nice shade over it.
We went into the pool for a bit too.
In the afternoon we decided to go for a drive up to Mt Lemmon.
Some nice homes along the way.
The drive up to Mt. Lemmon was twisty and windy and the altitude was over 9000 ft at the top.
There is a famous cookie place up there, Cookie Cabin, but the line up was ridiculous so we skipped it.
This is what the terrain looked like at the top.
We went through several different types on the drive up and back down - it was kind of neat.
We left sunshine and warm weather and up here there was snow - some people were walking around in big coats and pants and I had a tank top on but it felt fine.
This was a hotel that had a bakery inside so we decided to go in there to check it out.
I needed a washroom as well.
The stairs up to the hotel entrance were covered in snow.
These little bear statues were at the top of the stairs.
The hotel is to the left there, it had a nice big patio area.
This is inside the hotel - very nice.
The bakery inside had cookies so we got one there and they were very good.
There was a gift shop so we checked that out.
They had these hand painted characters that were super cute but a little too pricey for me.
Just some of the homes in Mt Lemmon - pretty nice, likely pretty pricey too.
On the way back down we made a few stops to take in the scenery and get some pictures.
Jason.
The views were stunning.
We stopped and Jason made a snowman.
There's Copper and Gold here apparently.
There was once section with a big hill covered in snow where a bunch of people had pulled over and were actually sledding on the hill.
What a fun thing to do!
Just more views along the drive back.
Still more snow.
I just wanted to stop every few minutes and take pictures but they just don't do the view justice.
Wearing shorts in the snow.
Now we were starting to get into a more rocky area.
Not really any trees here.
There were all these big rock formations that looked so cool.
Some were right along the edge of the road and it was kind of freaky driving by them, like what if they fell over?
Pretty amazing how they were just balanced there like that.
They seemed so precarious.
We pulled over again so we could get out and take some pictures.
The formations went all the way down the side of the mountain/hill.
We stopped at this spot where you could walk out to this lookout spot.
I get a little nervous in spots like this but when we got out there, it was really very safe.
Moi.
A nice couple offered to take a picture of us so we took them up on it.
Then it was back on the road and the terrain started changing again.
Much rockier and different plants.
Cactus covered hillside.
This was probably my favorite part of the drive, it was closer to the bottom and it was just covered with cacti.
They were just everywhere and the sun was just setting which made it extra beautiful.
Another kind of cactus - I think they are so interesting.
Cactus in the setting sun.
I don't think I've ever seen so many cacti.
The whole hill was just covered.
Supper was at Los Olivos
We got their Los Olivos Pizza which had fresh tomato, artichoke, green olives and basil and we got them to add pepperoni.
It was very good.
They had Tres Leches so you know we had to try that and it was well worth it.
So moist and milky - Delicious!
These are Jason's pictures from today.
Jason made a post this morning after our run/walk.
He just has an eye and notices things that I am completely oblivious to sometimes.
A sign by the trail that I never even noticed.
Just a tunnel where the trail went under the road.
Then he made another post after our excursion up to Mt Lemmon.
The little snowman he made.
The sun over the mountains.
Cacti along the road with the sun low in the sky.
Meanwhile back home the kids were just hanging out - Haylee posted some pictures.
Her and Eden.
Mama and her girl.
I love how she's looking at her mom with that huge smile.
Ice cream treat after bath time.
Sisters - I love that they have each other.
Her little toothy grin - adorable.
That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
