I had an appointment to take Professor Snuggles to the vet today so I worked through lunch, picked him up at 1 and headed to Whitecourt.
It's an hours drive and Snuggie isn't the biggest fan of being in the car.
I had him in a cat carrier - he let me know vocally the whole way there that he wasn't happy but once we actually got there and stopped driving, he was a bit better.
He didn't really like being on the counter so I had to pet him and comfort him to keep him from trying to jump off.
When it occurred to me to pull his blanket out and put that underneath him, he was much better.
They did blood work and a urine sample and turns out it was diabetes just like I thought.
His blood sugar should be between 6 and 16 and he was at 23.
He's also lost a couple kg which is a lot for a cat.
He didn't have any ketones in his blood yet so we caught the diabetes early which is good.
They offered the option of a pill at 200 bucks per month or insulin shots, the insulin is 30 bucks a pop (lasts for 25 days) and the needles are about 20 bucks so we went with that option.
We have to give him a needle 2x daily - 12 hours apart which is going to be a pain when we go away but it is manageable.
The vet visit ended up costing me 350 plus another 100 for food.
Then I also had to pick up blood glucose monitoring strips and prick things to get blood which were another 100 bucks.
Ouch!
The vet did say that some cats go into recession when they start getting insulin shots so let's hope that is the case here.
It was around 6 pm when I made it back home.
The girls wanted to come over so Kody dropped them off.
Jason took Eden with him for a run and I took Freya with me to my Mission Possible meeting.
As they were heading out the door for the run, Eden told Jason she wanted to go to the store for ice cream and even had to foresight to ask him if he had his money.
Ha ha.
It's good stuff.
Jason treated himself to one as well.
They came over to where my meeting was to see if Freya wanted to go home with them.
She didn't so they all ended up sitting in the FCSS office coloring until I was ready to go home.
The meeting went late, it was after 9 when I finally left.
We dropped the girls off at home.
When I got home, I could barely keep my eyes open, I felt exhausted.
I sat down and tracked all my food in the WW app.
This is day 2 of doing that.
Just need to get a few more days under my belt to feel like I'm making progress.
I didn't manage to get all my steps in and I was too tired by this point to do anything about it so it is what it is.
Tomorrow will be better.
That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
