Toronto Day Two - Burattino, Happy Burger and Thunderbolts. (May 9, 2025)

We had a really great sleep last night and when we got up this morning, we got ready and headed out for a run/walk first thing.

We made a slight detour on the way and ended up going through this 'animal' park and this fountain with all the dogs on it was so cute.

Then we passed by this giant eagle sculpture on the outside of a building.

Cool

Jason and I split up again - but we both went in the same direction was the opposite of the way we'd gone yesterday.

Jason ended up in this park area that he said was really nice.

I didn't quite make it that far when he texted to say he was turning back - I turned back too.

I did a combo of running and walking again today, maybe a little less running than yesterday but I still felt good.

Jason found a bagel spot with really good reviews that was nearby our hotel so we decided to stop there on the way back to grab breakfast.

It was inside of an office building but down in the underneath pathways and there were stores and restaurants and food courts all over.

We went all over the place down there but just could not find the bagel place we were looking for.

We asked a few people for directions but still no luck.

After about a half hour of walking around and searching to no avail, we happened upon another bagel place and just decided to eat there.

It was a really nice little food court area, it had a little grocery store next to it where you could get all kinds of stuff including these warm cookies that looked so yummy.

The Epic Cookie - it was huge too.
Jason and I split one.

After breakfast, we went back to our room, cleaned up and then decided to take the subway over to High Park.
There is a pizza place over there that does a black garlic pizza that Jason has been wanting to try for some time.

It was about a 20 minute walk to the subway from our room and we saw some cool murals along the way.

It's hard to get the whole thing in with the phone on my camera.

So here's a closer shot of part of this mural.

There happened to be a Chick-fil-a on our route so we stopped in and shared some grilled chicken nuggets.

They are so good!

The street we turned onto to get into the subway station had all these huge birds in flower beds all along the street.

They weere all different colors.

So super cute - I loved them.

We hopped on the subway - it was our first time taking a subway in Toronto.
It was pretty straight forward.
We got off at the High Park stop then it was another 20 minute walk over to the pizza place that we were going to.
It was in a neat area that had a great vibe.

We found the spot - Burattino.

They had some delicious looking cookies in their window, the Queen Pistachio White Chocolate Chip was calling to me.

So I got one and we cracked into it while we were waiting for our pizzas.

It had pistachio cream and white chocolate inside and it was ooey gooey - just the way I like a cookie to be.

Close up!

It was just a small pizza place.
I saw that they had a white clam pizza so I wanted to try that.

We also ordered the black garlic pizza that we came for.

I liked the crust on the pizza, the black garlic was not my favorite.

We both ended up liking the white clam pizza better.

Overall, the pizza was just ok - we wouldn't go out of our way to go back but would eat there again if we happened to be in the area.

We just started walking around the area and ended up in a park.

The tulips were all in bloom.

So many beautiful colors.

And this tree was just gorgeous.
WOW.

What a beautiful sight.

We passed by High Park on our way to the subway station and saw some bikes for rent so decided to get a couple of those instead and bike back downtown.

We made it downtown and saw and ice cream truck so stopped for an ice cream.
It was good but after eating a bit of it, the roof of my mouth felt like it was coated with a thick layer of lard or something.
It was kind of gross so I dumped the ice cream.

We put the bikes back then headed back to our room for a bit and hung out.
Then it was time for some supper.
We were feeling like a burger and decided to go back to Happy Burger - we ate there last time we were in Toronto but it was so good we knew we wouldn't be disappointed.

It was a different location than the one we were at before and it was in the same direction as where we'd walked earlier today to hop on the subway but further so we decided to rent bikes to get there.
I got an ebike and it was AWESOME - I loved it.

Love the decor.

It's simple and clean.
I like it.

We each got a burger - I got a double with just the regular toppings, tomato, onion, lettuce, pickle, mustard and Ketchup.
Jason got their onion one which was also great.

We decided to go to a movie tonight, found a theater nearby and got there just in time.
We saw Thunderbolts and we both really enjoyed it.
It was quite entertaining.

The theater was inside a mall and it had these floral fashion displays - they have similar ones in the West Edmonton mall but these ones felt like they were a level above - more sophisticated.

I mean isn't that gorgeous?

The little woodland creatures added such whimsy.

Another one - Nice but the first one was my favorite.

From there we walked back to our room and called it a night.

I was pretty tuckered out and this is why.
Over 37000 steps today, not too shabby.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!

Toronto - George Street Diner and Scaddabush (May 8, 2025)

I was actually able to get a bit of sleep on the flight which was awesome - I normally have a very hard time sleeping on a plane.

I woke up to the sun shining in the window across the aisle as we were getting ready to descend into Toronto.

The clouds looked just gorgeous.

Amongst the clouds.

We made it!
It was 6:30 am Toronto time when we landed.
I was feeling not too bad at this point - but we were hoping there was a chance that we might be able to check into our room early.

The big city - I'm looking forward to another adventure here.

We took the train into downtown Toronto from the airport.
We both fell asleep and nearly missed our stop - I woke up and everyone had gotten off the train.
Another minute and we'd have been on our way back to the airport.

We walked straight to our hotel to check in, they did not have any rooms available but said they would call us if they got one.
Jason's phone was just about dead so we went to the second floor of the hotel where the conference rooms were and found a plug in to charge Jason's phone and just sat on a couch there while it charged a bit.
I think I fell asleep briefly - I was feeling quite tired by this point.
We sat there maybe for an hour at the most then decided to go for a walk and find a coffee and some breakfast.

We passed a little bakery so I had to pop in and have a look.
They had these pistachio cheesecake bites that looked scrumptious so Jason & I shared one.
It was fantastic - I mean it's pistachio and cheesecake - two of my favorite things, how can you go wrong?

Then we found this spot with really good reviews to go and have some breakfast.
George Street Diner.

I looked like a true greasy spoon diner inside - I loved it.

I just got this breakfast plate that had eggs, bacon, fries, beans, grilled tomato and their specialty Irish soda bread.
The bacon and eggs had kind of a fishy taste like they'd cooked it on the same grill as fish and it was off-putting.
The soda bread was so fantastic though - I just loved it.

From there we decided to walk over to the Eaton Center.
We just did some looking around, didn't really buy anything, except some very expensive chocolate from a chocolate store.
It had a pistachio cream filling so I just had to try it.
I was too full to have it just now but I'll try it later at the hotel.

We ended up getting a call around 1 that they had a room ready for us so we went back to the hotel, got settled into our room and then had a nap for an hour or so.

When we got up, we got ready to head out for a run/walk.
Jason was going to run 10k, I was going to just going to do a walk/run combo.

Passed this super cute statue.

Heading down to the water front for our run.

I passed this tree and the sun was shining through it - it looked so pretty.

The views here are so pretty.

There's the CN tower.

I met up with Jason when he finished his
10k.

These are the stats from my run/walk.
I mainly ran but I did do a bit of walking here and there as well.
I was quite proud of myself.

Heading back to our room to clean up and get ready for supper.

Some pictures of our room - this is the bedroom.

The pass through to the bathroom - the sinks were in a room on their own with a huge closet then the bathroom and the shower were in a room off of that.

The desk area.

It would be a nice spot to sit and work if you needed too.

The view our our window.

We were right on the corner and there was always lots going on.
We were on the 8th floor so we could see the people down below and we enjoyed quite a bit of people watching.

We went to this pasta place that we came to last time we were in Toronto and loved, Scaddabush.
I'm not a huge pasta person but I loved the pasta we had here.

I really like this light fixture.

It's quite a big restaurant and it always seems to be busy.

My Honey.

Moi.

We had this 3 Cheese Truffle Charity Bread that we shared.
I love bread of any kind.

Then I had the Roasted Mushroom & Truffle Gnocchi.
So so good.

Jason had the Lemon Garlic Shrimp Spaghetti which is what I had last time we were here.
Also amazingly delicious.
If I lived nearby I would come back here and try every single thing on their menu.

When we walked down to the waterfront earlier to go for our walk, we noticed on a billboard of a venue that the comedian Nikki Glaser is here this weekend so when we got back to the hotel, we checked Ticketmaster for tickets and found some so we will go see her on Saturday night.

While I was doing a little scrolling on the internet - I saw that Sesame Street Live is coming to Edmonton.
That would be fun to take Eden to.

Saw this too and it made me giggle.

We did A LOT of walking today and by the time we went to bed, I was zonked and fell asleep immediately which was awesome.

That's all for today, until next time, be happy!
