Fifty By 50: October 2022

Today is Miss Freya's fourth birthday!

So bummed that we are missing it.

Haylee posted a bunch of pictures this morning of her so I thought I would share them all here.

I love her so so much - being a Grandma really has been such a blessing.

We had a bit of a sleep in today.

Jason had a hard time falling asleep last night so I figured he needed the rest.

It was close to 2 pm by the time we left our little apartment.

My legs are feeling much better today, like 80%!

We had bagels and cream cheese for breakfast before we headed out.

I had mine with jam and Jason had his with salmon.

Yum Yum!

First stop was the Whales of Iceland museum.

It had life size models of all kinds of whales.

They were huge.

It was pretty cool.

I learned today that a dolphin is a type of whale, I never knew that.

There was a narwhal skull.

Us humans look pretty tiny next to these guys.

Each whale had this write up about it - you could either read it or listen to the blurb about it on the headphones they provided.

We just read them.

It was kind of dark in there, I think on purpose so it would be like being under water.

Made it hard to take pictures though and see everything properly.

This looks like the kind of whale that swallowed Pinocchio.

Of course there was a little gift shop and cafe on the way out, there always is.

I always like to look at the gift shops but I rarely buy anything anymore.

Next we headed to Fly Over Iceland

We actually saw this one before when we were in Las Vegas but we really enjoy them.

I could see them over and over honestly - they are really cool.

I love their affinity for Troll culture over here. it's awesome.

I saw these little troll dolls in the airport and new I wanted one as soon as I saw them so I was happy to see they had them in the gift store here.

I bought myself one!

There was a cute troll cut out too that you could take your picture with.

Here's her story.

The gift store also had these simple wooden sheep that I just loved but at $300 a pop, that was kind of out of my price range.

Like I said, we'd seen the show before but I loved it just as much the second time as I did the first.

If you ever have an opportunity to try a Fly Over show, I highly recommend it.

After the show, we stopped at the cute little ice cream place we'd passed by yesterday on the Hop On Hop Off tour.

They had lots of flavors to choose from and I love me a good hard ice cream.

Jason tried a black licorice flavored ice cream which he just loved.

Folks in Iceland just love their black licorice and you see it everywhere.

I got a chocolate nutty kind and a berry one too.

We did a bit of walking around just to explore a bit.

I really liked this building with the colorful balconies.

I liked the artwork on the fence.

Saw a few more murals.

We came across a ramen place that we thought we'd try but the line up was out the door.

We waited for about ten minutes but nothing was moving so we gave up and decided to go somewhere else.

We thought we'd check out this little place that sells a very popular/famous seafood bisque (the blue building) but as you can see, it was pretty lined up.

So we decided to give the yellow place right next door a try.

It was called Himalayan Spice and they served Nepalese food.

I wasn't even really sure what that was but I was willing to give it a try.

I liked how they had it decorated inside.

I had a biryani rice dish.

It had cashews in it and shrimp and it was really good but as I was eating it, the heat was building up until it eventually got to a point where it was too spicy for me and I couldn't eat any more.

Jason got a lamb curry that came with all these sides.

We also shared some naan bread.

The food was really great food - I'm happy it worked out that we got to try it.

We had to walk back over to the car after we ate (we'd left it at the Whale museum) and we saw some more neat stuff along the way.

Isn't that cool?

There were electric scooters all over the place and I've been wanting to try them out ever since the first time I really noticed them when we were in San Diego.

I've seen them in lots of cities since then but I've always been too chicken to try them.

Until today - I finally gave one a try (we both did) and we just loved them.

What a way to get around.

Got some new mittens at the Fly Over Iceland gift shop too and they came in handy today.

So we hopped on them and just kind of rode around a bit.

We came across this weird round hill - not sure of the significance?

It had a path winding around it that just led to the top and back down so Jason went up to check it out.

I stayed with our scooters.

They were really so much fun.

They were doing some work on a ship in the harbour.

They had it all sanded back.

Then later that same day they already had it all painted up again.

Jason took this picture, he has a good eye for stuff like this.

After a bit of exploring, we took the scooters back over the the Whale museum where we'd left the car.

The great thing about them is that you can just leave them anywhere so we left them there at the museum and hopped in the car.

There was a Kronan grocery store right nearby and we love checking out grocery stores when we are travelling so we went in to have a look and we got some treats.
